challenged us in her last post to re-design /upgrade/ pimp Ted´s suit.
I know that this would probably better fit into the comments, but (since I still have no idea how to post images in comments) it is big, I´ll make a seperate entry out of that.
We all know our Blue Beetles
Let´s start with the original Blue Beetle suit:
First Blue Beetle: Dan Garret:
"This Beetle was archeleogist Dan Garrett, who obtained a number of superhuman powers (including enhanced strength, flight and the ability to generate lightning) from a mystical scarab he found during a dig in Egypt where it had been used to imprison an evil mummified Pharaoh. He would transform into the Blue Beetle by saying the words "Kaji Dha!" "
Well, nothing to be seen from the bug-motif except for his belt buckle.
Also, not everything is blue, we have still the red gloves, goggles and the ...thing on his cowl.
Since Dan has superpowers from the scarab, the costume does not really need to protect him. It´s just a spandex (or whatever) bright costume to hop around.
It seems very simple, just legging,red goggles, gloves, ...regular superhero stuff (look at the underwear worn on the outside...old superhero tradition)
now for comparison, Blue Beetle II:
"Ted Kord was a genius-level inventor and a gifted athlete. Kord's signature equipment was his bug-shaped personal aircraft, which he entered and exited typically with a cable suspended from the cockpit. He also generally eschewed personal weaponry except for a pistol that made a blinding flash of light and, additionally, a strong airblast to gain the advantage when he closed in for hand-to-hand combat."
So, here´s Teddie!
His suit is all blue and clearly bug-themed. Once again, the costume is just spandex (or so I think).
Ted´s just a normal guy without any powers, so he has to even the odds by adding for example "secret fingertip controls" and "Secret weapon".
His weapons seem very ineffective. As far as I know he has two guns (or it could be one combined) a gun with strobe lights, and another one (or the same) which shoots with air. Both are of course non-lethal.
Ted focuses on his agility and flexibility when it comes to hand-hand combat. (read something like "olypmia skilled gymniast")
Ted´s suit is mainly light blue with dark blue gloves, boots, the (I don´t know the proper word) "underwear" and his cowl with the bug-insignia on his chest. His goggles are yellow, as well as his belt buckle. (which could resemble a bug, but m not too about that. It would make sense though...and which are also on his gloves)
As we learned it´s not-bulletproof and basically just again a bright costume to hop around and not an armor and it offers little protection. (Whenever he´s in Bug, that´s okay, but in close combat...huge mistake)
On to Blue Beetle the third:
"The Blue Beetle scarab is grafted onto Jaime's spine, and can manifest a number of powers at its own volition, which is usually accompanied by blue energy emitted by the scarab's "antennae". Over the course of the first year of his ongoing series, Jaime had little, if any, control over those powers, but slowly began to assert himself over the suit after this first year. When Jaime is in danger, the scarab activates, crawling out on to Jaime's back and generating a high-tech suit of powered armor around his body. "
Now, that´s what I call a real suit. It is pretty "buggy", it definetely serves some other purposes than protecting a secret identity and it kicks ass. From all of the costumes themsleves, this rules (alien high-tech against blue spandex...tough choice).
Don´t read me wrong, Ted´s my fav Beetle forever, but...we all know what happened because of his costume
I´m not that much into BBIII but I think that the scarab can transform into every weapon, can take heavy blows, etc...
Mainly dark blue, boots, "backpack" and chest-thing (I love his chest emblem) in a lighter shade. For the bug motif we have the "backpack" and the mask which conceals his entire face.
The armor looks like it´s made out of chitin (once again, bug thing)
so, let´s go on with "official" other suits:
First, from Ted´s "I can´t believe it´s not the Justice League/Superbuddies"-days, we proudly present:
The Dark Suit!!!
...actually that´s just a color flip-flop. AAAAAND the belt thing is blue now.
And the next "official" suit:
That´s the Blue Beetle suit from "Kingdom Come".
Since this is 20+ years into the future, Ted is now older and probably focuses more on an actual armor than his combat skills. (He´s in his 50 now ...). We have the bug theme (I love the wings!!) It´s shiny (made from metal..bulletproof!) and entirely blue.
As a future suit, I like this one.
It´s loyal to the bug motive, it´s looks like a real armor (I love that) and it has wings. That´s the top and nothing can be cooler than wings^^

(and just for trivia: Ted has hair. Green Arrow not. HA!)
Did you notice? Ted is married (ring on his finger^^). (I´ll go into Denialville and say he´s married to Booster.)

I found some inspirating pictures of armor on the web, and I think I should share them
They are from Saint Seiya. (Anime, don´t know about that one...it features teenagers in fancy armors, I think)
I know it´s a women. But it´s a butterfly armor and it´s blue.
I really like the headpiece and the bra-section, they´re very beautifully drawn. It´s a cool desgn for an armor.
But: no good for Ted. Very negative for his flexibility, it´s for a female and the upper section and the upper legs are not protected.
Improvement: Male armor, cool wings, huge antennae...
negative: again not good for flexibility,
It´s made of metal (good) But it´s probably heavier than good for Ted (gymniastics...+ metal=...no good)
and now for the real new ideas:

Basic design can stay, but we need more protection for his poor brain.
So a cowl out of a harder material that can take bullets. (I think Bats and pals have theirs out of that stuff.) Maybe Kevlar, but you can´t make the head to heavy, otherwise you ruin Teddie´s point of gravity.
Ted needs a new gun.
Light may be effective for some people (annyoing Bats when he´s trying to hide in the shadows) but it´s not really effective. Of course no real guns, but maybe a stun gun or something that works with non-lethal, but numbing shocks.
does this remind other people, too, of Spiderman and his web fluid?
Ted has electronic locks on the underside of his chin to keep people from pulling it off when he´s unconciuous. Good idea, maybe you could expand this to more parts. Gloves, boots, ...
A cool part would be a computer-interface in his goggles. (enhanced superhard goggles which won´t shatter, are bulletproof and can vary the shading to protect Ted´s eyes (aka blasting his own light gun in his face and he won´t be blinded then). He could hack into defense systems, turn on/off alarms, ...
and don´t forget his fingertip electronic remotes.
And he could use some little devices (lockpicks, little torches, ...)
and maybe beef up his belt...yes, *sigh* like Batman´s utility belt.
Ted once said that he was familiar with the technique Mister Miracle uses with his "flying discs"
(don´t know proper name). He could put two of them into his own boots, as a last resort, when he´s falling very fast down from a skyscraper or something. Again, not too heavy stuff to keep him agile.
If we go for the offensive tactic, he could have enhanced material on his forearms and his lower legs (stronger blows, harder surface..maybe sharp edges ..maybe metal)
For the defense (which I think he would prefer) we must beef up his chest- abdomen armor. (which is now simple spandex and offers very little protection) Maybe a chitin-motive.

again a reference to the bat-armor (I mean..Batman gets shot at constantly and he still survives.)
Up till now, nothing really from the outside has changed.
Now the suit has only changed concerning the materials and some digital gimmicks.
f we keep the bug thing, we´re gonna add antennae to his goggles to tap into radio frequencies (police, emergency stuff, official earpiece...all into two antennae+ of course a bullet proof cowl)
For his armor we could forge an armor which is designed like the chitin insects are made of. Like the overlapping sections. (but i´m not sure that´s a good idea when you look at his flexibility and agility...that would be contra-productive)
Wings: not sure if that will work, would looooooove it,
Backpack: inspired by Jaime´s backpack and this

stopping in the middle of a fight, just for the sake of an argument...I just love them
after a bar brawl Guy kicks Rex (Metamorpho), Ted and Booster from his bar. (from Act of God, where all superheroes lose their powers..except for those who never had any (Ted, Bats) and the ones who rely on technology(Booster). They decide to sell their equipment to the highest-bidding and have a nice life with all that money.
