Snow Day and Sherlock

Jan 08, 2014 17:22

Today we had another day off from school due to the continued extreme cold and the state of our roads.  Many roads in the outlying areas were totally impassable.  Hardly surprising given the amount of snow we we received, the wind causing it to drift, and the fact that salt doesn't work in temperatures below 20 degrees.  While the boys and I could've gotten to school, thanks to the hired plow Ed's folks paid for, probably 3/4 of our school population wouldn't have made it.  I hope Old Man Winter will slow down now that he's had his big New Year blast.  We've used up almost all our snow days, and soon we'll have to start making them up in June.

I woke up briefly this morning to have my coffee and breakfast but then snuggled back up in my recliner and slept until noon.  I didn't really want to do that, but my body flatly refused to engage in any other activity.  This afternoon, after forcing my traitorous body to get up and moving, I got my laundry started and made two pumpkin pies.  No reason in particular for the pies, other than we were jonesing for some.

Now I'm sitting down with a proper cuppa tea in my English tea set and enjoying some surfing.  Ed is relaxing and watching some TV, and the boys are having a much-needed visit with their grandparents down the street.

I might re-watch the newest Sherlock episode online after supper.  Season 3, Episode 1 was more like past episodes, full of action and intrigue, while Season 3, Episode 2 really pulls on your heart strings.  As usual, Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman make it totally believable.  Of course we have to, and want to, give kudos to Steve Moffat and Mark Gatiss for their impeccable writing.  I sincerely think they ought to teach American writers how it's done, because our writers have gotten lazy and unimaginative.  Moffatt and Gatiss are not only imaginative, but they know how to express it in a believable, interesting script.  Then you have Martin and Benedict who give the script incredible life with their acting.  It really is genius!  Benedict obviously pours his whole heart into it.  He can make you laugh one second and cry the next.  I've never seen acting to equal it.  Martin reacts in perfect time to him, and the expressive looks he gives Benedict and others just cracks me up!  It's that "What?!  Are you serious?!" look that gets me every time.  And his giggle....it's so darn cute.  Anyway, if you have not watched that series, I really think you ought to give it a chance.  Go to http://www.dailymotion.com/user/moffatholmes/2#video=xe5lig and begin with Season 1, Episode 1 (I believe that episode comes right up when you go to that link.)  If you like a good drama, this is the program for you!  I'd be very surprised if you come away disappointed.

Buddy cracks me up.  I left for a moment to take him out, thinking he'd probably stay close to the house.  Nope.  He will stay close to the house to pee, but when it comes time for the other business, he has to go to his favorite corner, even if it means jumping like a jack rabbit in two feet of snow to get there.  Guess the habit is so deeply ingrained, he can't stand to change it.  He looked pretty silly, I'll tell you.  Despite his thin fur coat, snow doesn't seem to bother him.  Now the bitter cold we had....that affected him badly, but just regular winter temperatures and snow....naw.  No problem there where my Bud's concerned.  He just makes me happy, that dear dog does.  He brings my heart so much joy and love.  I was definitely meant to be a doggy mommy.

Doggy eye candy.....

LOL.

Until later, my friends....
