My summers seem to keep getting busier and busier instead of slower and lazier. How is one to fit in everything they want to do and stlll have any lazy days?
As soon as the boys and I got out of school, we headed to Mentor, Ohio to see my parents for a while. We always plan for two weeks, but inevitably stay longer. It was a wonderful stay, and we got to do a lot of things we'd hoped to do while there. One of the biggest things Mom, Aunt Catbird, and I wanted to go to Maryland to see our family's library, the Ruth C. Enlow Library, to find out more about the family. We did get to go, and it was a lot of fun! Most of the materials had the same information I already had, with a few exceptions. One neat thing was Mom and Aunt Catbird met a distant relation while we were there! He was also researching the Enlow family, and we discovered he's a distant cousin! Isn't that funny? We go expecting to find documents, and find a real, live relative that we hadn't met before! It was cool.
On our way north, we stopped by the homestead site in Farmington, PA to visit Mom and Aunt Bird's sister-in-law, Michelle. She sold the property and is moving down the mountain into Uniontown. She had several mounds of papers, a photo book, and several other items that belonged to Uncle Herbie and Uncle Bobby. She even had their youngest sister's birth certificate; their youngest sister died at age nine months from pneumonia. Michelle even had the picture of Great-Grandpa Baker that once hung in the homestead. It was a treasure-trove like we never expected. The real reason we went was to fetch Uncle Bobby's wooden secretary that Mom had always admired. It's in rough shape, so Daddy is refurbishing it. It's going to look great, and best of all, it has deep sentimental value for Mom. I tried to save a few clippings of Grandma's snowball bush, but they couldn't handle the planting. I'm sad about that, but I can probably find another plant. I just wanted those to survive because they're from the bush Grandma planted herself. Once we left the homestead, we stopped by Waterford, PA so I could personally pay my respects to Michael Hare, my Irish ancestor who is a Revolutionary War hero. It was humbling and exciting! Finally, we stopped by Erie, PA to have supper with my cousin, Deanna, whom I haven't seen in a few years. It was great getting together, all four of us, and enjoying each other's company. We arrived home exhausted but very happy.
Since getting home, time hasn't tried to slow down! There've been doctor's appointments and dental appointments, activities and things needing done around the house! Whew. In the midst of all that, I had to have a dental calamity that sent me to ER. The cracked tooth that has been bothering me decided to break apart and relieve itself of its filling. That sent my pain levels through the roof. I was growling and moaning in the ER room, begging for some pain relief! Thankfully, a nearby clinic was able to see me right away, and yesterday I had the troublesome tooth pulled. I was also slated to have another tooth pulled, but the doctor on duty said it was needless....it could do with a simple filling. What good news that was! My mouth is still tender, and the hole still feels a bit gelatinous, but I'm getting along. :)
I return to work on August 19th, and this year I return as a full-time salaried employee!! No more part-time para without benefits! It's a HUGE relief! Our boss worked really hard to get this in place for us, and I am so thankful! Maybe now, between my insurance and the Medicare Ed is supposed to get, we can finally get him some proper treatment for his hips!!
I just remembered I was supposed to do something work-related, and I clean forgot from being doped up on Percocet. I think I've screwed up! Uh, oh! I'd better close this up and go check on it!
Have a good night, Friends!
