It's quiet in the house this evening. Ed and I are on our own as the boys have gone to see their grandparents for an overnight. Maybe with all this delicious peace, I can concentrate on writing a real post!
I don't know exactly what's going on with Live Journal tonight, but the rich text editor will not let me return after my paragraphs. Anyone else having issues with LJ?
We are halfway through the school year already. Today we had our Valentine's Day parties, and tomorrow is the high school's Snow Ball Dance. Dave has been helping to plan it, and he can't wait to go. Eddie was a little reticent about going until he got nominated for homecoming king. Yes, he did, and he's so stoked! I'm going in at noon to help decorate and then I'm going to the dance long enough to see the homecoming festivities. Yes, I will be taping it!
This Wednesday after work Ed and I will be headed to Mentor to spend a few days with my parents. Mom just learned her cancer has returned, this time it's in her other breast. She knew this was always a possibility, and she feels fortunate that it took 14 years for it to happen. It's the same kind of cancer she had before. It's too large for a lumpectomy, but it is all contained in the tissue in one place. There's none in the lymph nodes, so all she needs is the mastectomy. She'll require no chemo and no radiation, just as before. It seems very weird to say there's a "good" kind of cancer, but this is just as easy to treat as thyroid cancer, maybe even easier.
I had wanted to be with her for the surgery any way, but it became more urgent when Daddy took a stumble coming downstairs from their bedroom and broke his ankle in three places. Daddy now has a plate and screws in his ankle to match the one he has in his knee from the car accident. He took it in stride, teasing Mom about beating her to the operating table. What do I do with those two? I come back home from spending Christmas break with them, and they fall to pieces! I've told them to behave themselves and quit competing with each other. They just laugh at me. ;)
Ed and the kids are fine. Buddy is fine. The kitties are fine. Other than a sprained knee from cheering too rigorously for our boys' Varsity basketball team, I'm fine, too.
Think I'll sign off and do some reading before going to bed. Or maybe I'll play some Mahjongg.
Good night!
