Title: The Space Between
Word Count: 200
Pairing: Rosey/Bauer
Genre: FPS
Rating: PG
Warnings: none
Disclaimer: Surrealissimo is property of Matthew Broughton and Richard Curson Smith.
Author's Comments: Inspired by Basic Space by The xx, in particular the line "I think I'm losing where you end and I begin". I wanted to try writing Rosey and Bauer early in their relationship and Bauer quotes Oscar Wilde in the first part of this piece. If you haven't seen Surrealissimo, Rosey is played by Julian and Bauer is played by Noel.

Another night, another event, another "performance". With matching suits, intertwined fingers, and guarded eyes, Rosey and Bauer whisper constellations of desire to themselves in between acts, waiting for Breton to decide it is time to close the curtain. There is something different tonight; their orbit has shifted and Rosey can feel Bauer's unease through his fingertips. Before he can offer any comfort, a new player enters their small stage, another inquisitive observer. But rather than the usual teasing tones and suggestive replies they give such deeply personal questions, Bauer boldly steps forward alone.

"Those who see any difference between soul and body have neither."

With that Rosey finds himself adrift for the first time in months. Yet the show must go on.

-------------------------

When Rosey returns home he finds Bauer under the stars, smelling of vanilla and regret. A thousand thoughts assault him at once and Rosey struggles to keep up with Bauer's waterfall of words. The space between them is deafening, hearts beating in stuttering symmetry.

"I've lost where you end and I begin and there's nothing wrong with that!"

Rosey places one hand on Bauer's chest, and in his chaos Bauer does the same. Always. Together.

"We are here."
