Is certainty necessary in order to makee the claim that one knows something?

That is my question for my philosophy paper due tomorrow....just wondered what other people thought....

Certainty implies that something is true without any reasonable doubt, and facts to prove it. Of course certainty is necessary to make the claim that you know something. So many people are ridiculed for making false statements and why? They lack certainty.
