democracy...

in the last 8 years [the Bush era] democracy has been touted[sp] as being the "cure" for all the world's woes. I beg to disagree...democracy [in the beginning] Romans invented it--it was pure and good....but it has now become so diluted in politics that it barely resembles the Roman example. California is the only state that, to me, is close to a pure democracy as they put a lot of gov't issues to a vote by the people which, to me, is the best way. There are a lot of arguments pro and cons. But now with the electoral college and all and big business running the show--democracy has become a joke.

For example here and other countries around the world--they praise democracy and sing nationalistic songs but when it really comes down to it money and corruption is the rule of law--not democracy. Big business and "blue bloods" run most governments and always will. By blue bloods I mean "old money"--the families that have been the rich for centuries. Even in Russia, which now totes to be democratic the blue bloods still run everything--they just have elections to please the people, while all the while they are just fooling the people.

I watched Sarah Palin on Oprah last night and she told of how the media and politicians totally "wrap" the contenders in a complete "package" that they want to sell the to the public--everything from her hair to clothes to what she eats. But here is the real Zinger---no matter what party wins[most countries have 2 major ones] the winning party is told and "run" by the "old money" and bureacrats that have been running gov't for years!! Nothing changes. It is like musical chairs--the 2 parties taking turns is all---making the people think and believe that things will change if their candidate is elected. Democracy in this day and age is a Big Shell Game, conning the people and the world that all of us has a say in our gov't but really don't.
