http://forum.newsarama.com/showthread.php?t=83723 The above is a link to an interview with DC's Georg Brewer, talking about some of the company's upcoming collected editions. First, the bad news--Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's latest LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN story, an original hardcover graphic novel titled BLACK DOSSIER, has been delayed indefinitely. I wish I could say I was surprised, but delays are kinda par for the course for this series. Still, once they're finished, nobody remembers how late they are--just how awesome they are. Still sucks, though.
That's the bad news. Now, on to the AWESOME news...
...DC is planning to release definitive colour hardcover collections of Jack Kirby's entire "Fourth World" saga--which ran throughout NEW GODS, FOREVER PEOPLE, MISTER MIRACLE, and select issues of the King's JIMMY OLSEN run--as the NEW GODS OMNIBUS! The only existing reprints of this stuff available are the cheap black-and-white trades that have been kicking around forever (well, the JIMMY OLSEN trades are in colour). I wanted individual Archive ediitons of these series for so long, but this is way better. This will represent a super-prestigious presentation of some of the craziest, coolest, most biblically epic comics ever attempted, as well as the definitive edition of some of my favourite comics of all time (heck, it's where my username came from). Seriously, Kirby's FOURTH WORLD saga is one of the most involved and complex fantasy universes in all fiction, on par with STAR WARS and LORD OF THE RINGS for settings, characters, and sheer epic scope. And damn, is the art ever fine. Some of Kirby's best, and that's saying something.
This is the best way my morning could have possibly started. It's all downhill from here.
