Nada. It took me a while to get my confidence back up to start vidding again this year.
Total vids: 6
That's eight less than last year, but I spent a huge chunk of time improving the quality of the source footage that I work with. And I feel like I've been spending more time on each individual vid too, which has hopefully improved their quality too.
My favorite video of this year (of my own):
Probably Acceptable in the Eighties. I just LOVE 80s movies so much and, despite the imperfect final version, I can't help but smile every time I rewatch it.
My least favorite:
Ball and Chain. I did it as an exercise to get my brain back in vidding mode and it just doesn't feel exciting/interesting--it feels like an exercise. And I hate the ending; I spent too much time building up to the ending and then rushed through it. Ugh.
Most successful video:
If success is gauged by comments/recs, then Acceptable in the Eighties and Bonafied Lovin are pretty closely tied. No contests/awards so far this year.
Video most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion:
Haha, usually I have one (last year I kept moaning "why oh why doesn't anyone love Someone That You're With as much as me?"), but this year I'm happy with the amount of attention each vid received.
Most fun video to make:
Take Me Now! I had so much fun thinking about each of the different slash pairings in the BSG-verse, and I really enjoyed the feedback from my fellow slashers in the fandom to help build the vid and make it truly multi-pairing.
Hardest video to make:
Depends. The tech was hardest for Acceptable in the Eighties, and I still didn't get the aspect ratio entirely right (hopefully will be able to go back and remaster it in January...). But the muse struggled the most with my Sweet Charity vids, particularly Lunatic Fringe. I'm really pleased with the end result but it was so hard at first coming up with a vid narrative for someone else's song/idea.
The things I've learned this year:
-I really love vidding humor. It's the first place my muse goes to every time.
-I'm still intimidated by using coloring and effects in vids (though that might have to do with the software I'm still using). I kind of regret the effects in Bonafied Lovin...
-Working with source footage from different shows/movies and in different aspect ratios makes my brain hurt
-I do much better with prompts than with specific requests
-Deadlines are really stressful and not particularly friendly to my muse
-Vidding in new fandoms is scary! Particularly in Supernatural fandom which is omghuge and it feels like every vid that could be done HAS been done.
Things to work on in 2009:
-Aspect ratio. I will conquer it eventually!
-Taking longer breaks between projects so that I don't feel burned out.
-Emotion and sophistication in my vids. I really enjoy going back and watching most of my vids, but I still yearn to make that kind of vid that makes my heart all achey for a particular character or relationship. I can start a vid thinking I'm making a statement about a character/theme, but by the time I'm done it doesn't feel like meta--it feels too obvious and unsubtle.
