20 Days of Vid Meme - Days 14-17

Aug 15, 2010 14:47

So so so happy with all the VVC vids I've seen so far, but I'll save those recs for another post once I've seen more :D

Day 1 - A vid that made you start watching a brand new show
Day 2 - A male character study vid you love
Day 3 - A female character study vid you love
Day 4 - An ensemble vid you love
Day 5 - A vid everyone should see at least once

Day 6 - A vid you've watched at least ten times.
Day 7 - A constructed reality/crossover vid you love - both SPN vids for this one
Day 8 - A vid you had to watch multiple times to understand

Day 9 - A vid that makes you cry
Day 10 - A vid that makes you laugh
Day 11 - An anime/animated vid you love

Day 12 - A relationship vid you love.
Day 13 - Your "pick me up" vid of choice

Day 14 - A mood vid you love - I guess 'mood' vids for me are defined by a combination of more emotionally intense music and unique vid narratives--something where the overall FEEL of the vid is what I remember most afterwards.

Carnival of Rust by absrip (SPN) - AMAZING. This video is phenomenal. Going on the strength of the music selection, and choosing a very non-narrative vid style, this piece works on gorgeous visuals and mood alone. The beautiful digital artwork and manips, particularly the tarot card theme, are just...wow.

This World by buffyann (BSG) - "This world is still afloat, we still have hope."

Day 15 - A vid (by someone else) that has defined a con or period of time for you

Sunshower and Thank You by canadiangirl-86 - Jo's vids really define my BSG fandom experience for me: a time when my awareness of the chemistry between Kara and Lee was what stood out most in the show, when the warmth and creativity of other shippers delighted me daily, when I was really plugged into one fandom. Nostalgia!

Day 16 - A vid that told you something new about a show/movie you already loved

Slow Down Gandhi by obsessive24 (BSG) - This vid taught me so many things about my show with its awesome meta on the abuse of authority. It's a really compelling POV to explore the show from, especially since the working class doesn't get much narrative privilege on the show and when it does it comes from problematic characters like Gaeta and Zarek: "The intended focus is twofold: (1) The ruling elite as a dynasty born into itself, dangling Earth in front of the workers as a means of maintaining power; (2) The ruling class forming an inexplicable alliance with the Cylons - at least it must seem inexplicable to the proles, who were never privy to the elevated personal dramas of the elite - and the hubristic expectation that the proles will simply accept this and fall into line."

Day 17 - A vid you wish you had made

Falling From the Sky by jarrow (BSG) - this vidder is my #1 hero anyway, but this vid in particular represents everything I want to be in a vidder when I grow up. It's one of my favorite characters and one of my favorite bands, with brilliant beatwork/pacing and fucking PHENOMENAL visual insights in Kara's character and her relationships with other pilots. He put so much time and thought into each clip selection and transition, and it shows.

And this is where I run out of words and just kind *flaaaaaail* around while rewatching the vid. I <3 it so much!

Day 18 - A vid that made you investigate that vidder's other work further
Day 19 - A movie vid you love
Day 20 - A narrative vid you love
