Closed: Ginny (and maybe George and Ron): Family Date!

Nov 30, 2013 18:16

Fred grabbed his coat and headed towards the door, stepping out into the cloud filled sky. It was a blustery November morning and he had a date with his sister. So rare were the weekend days they were both free that he'd decided they'd ought to do something rather special.

He'd sent his owl ahead, words scribbled, Change of plans, Gin, meet me at ( Read more... )

Ginny leaned up against the rail in front of the penguin exhibit. Watching them play lifted her heart and was more relaxing than she expected. Life had been hectic and stressful recently so to be able to just chill for a bit was so nice.

"Alright. Let's go find them!" She laughed as Fred started to drag her away from the penguins. Ginny wasn't as excited about the rays but seeing Fred so happy was worth leaving the peguins behind for now.

They rounded the corner to find a large open tank with a crowd of kids and parents around it. The kids where obviously trying to touch things in the tank. "I thunk we found where you can pet the rays."

Before Ginny had even finished her observation, Fred had pushed aside some small children so he was next to the tank. "Ginny! Rays!" He stares in awe as the incredible aquatics glided through the crystal water.

Tentatively, he put a hand into the tank, but withdrew it just before a ray came close. He cast a side long glance at Ginny, seeing if she'd noticed his cowardice.

Seeing Fred's excitement about the rays was truly adorable. She couldn't remember the last time she had seen him so happy. With a smile she went to join him at the tank, though unlike Fred she was much more mindful of the kids around them.

"They are neat," she said as she watched the rays glide through the water. After a few seconds she figured that she might as well join in the fun of petting them. Carefully she rolled up her sleeve to keep it out of the water and placed her hand in. The water was colder than she expected. With a slight finger wiggle she reached out and pet the ray that was swimming right by them.

"Oh! They're kinda soft, in a weird underwater kind of way."

He took courage from his sister, and dove his hand back into the tank. The cool water lapped up his wrist as he stretched out to reach a ray. As he neared, the ray rose out of the water, showing it's ninja-like face. Fred actually giggled.

While playing with the rays, stroking their silky smooth bodies, Fred brought up Angelina. "So, Angie's back in town... She's left that Canadian team she was playing with..."

Ginny was enjoying petting the rays much more than she had expected. She had started to zone out a little when Fred's voice brought her back to the present.

"Really? Is she picking up with a new team back here?" Ginny turned to face Fred as she pulled her hand out of the tank.

Reluctantly, he pulled his own hand out of the tank, thinking they could wander around the massive tanks to find the belugas.

"No, I'm not sure. I'm not sure she wants to," he explained, but didn't explain anything. "I don't think she even knows what she wants to do."

Ginny rolled her sleeve back down. With a soft and thoughtful frown she stepped away from the tank with the rays and started to lead them towards the other side of the aquarium.

"That's got to be hard. Not knowing what you want that is." Ginny knew the feeling of not knowing what you want and it sucked. She was happy though that she had found a career that she loved. One that made her happy every time she stepped into the locker room or onto the pitch. Even the team club house made her smile the second she arrived.

"Do you think she'll keep playing?" Angelina was so talented. Ginny always loved watching her play. It would be a waste for her to stop but Ginny also wanted to her to be happy.

The exotic fish swam over their heads and all around them, and Fred couldn't help but turn his head in all directions to watch them.

"I hope she will," he said, "actually, I was wondering if there were any spots open for chasers at Hollyhead?"

They entered a tunnel that went through one of the tanks. It was beautiful. Though the magnitude of it made Ginny feel tiny, almost insignificant in comparison. A bright blue fish swam by and Ginny turned her head to follow it.

"Not for first string. We have a small try out for some alternates coming up in a few days though." Ginny turned to look back at Fred. "I could owl her about them if you think she would be interested."

Ginny knew Angelina could make the team and move up from alternate pretty quickly with her skill. But with the season already in progress alternate positions were all that were open right now.

"You should definitely owl her," Fred agreed, "at least then she'd be able to make a decision."

Ginny knew all about his on again off again relationship with Angelina. And she knew how much he wanted to have her back in everything.

They exited the tunnel, and in front of them was the largest aquarium Fred had ever seen. "Ginny! I see your belugas!"

Ginny nodded. "I'll send her a note about it when I get home. Promise." She knew it wasn't much but if she could help in any way she would. Plus it meant a lot to Fred. Ginny knew he was concerned about Angelina both as a friend and as a bit more than that.

The tunnel ended and a new expanse of tanks awaited them. In the far corner Ginny caught a glimpse of a white tail go by. She started to move towards it. A grin broke out across her face. "Yes!" She grabbed Fred's hand and practically dragged him behind her and towards the belugas.

"Look at how cute they are!" She exclaimed, stopping just short of smooching her whole body against the glass to get a look at them.

Fred was excited about the rays, Ginny was now excited about the belugas. These two Weasleys were completely enthralled in this famous London aquarium.

His sister was standing so close to the glass she was almost smooshed against it. So Fred, ever so helpful... helped! Gently (he didn't want her to smack her head off the glass or anything, that wouldn't be very brotherly), he pushed her body so it was flush with the barrier, and then moved on to her head. When he was finished, her cheeks were flat on the pane and a beluga had swam right up to look at her.

Ginny was now completely squished against the glass of the tank, thanks to Fred. She would have gotten annoyed but as she was about to make a comment one of the beluga's swam right up to her. "Awww! Fred look!" She managed to exclaim even with her face being pushed forward.

Ginny and the beluga stared at each other for a few minutes before it swam off. Ginny grinned like crazy. After such a moment she was pretty sure the day couldn't get any better. Well it would be improved by Fred getting off her but that was a minor thing.

"Fred. You can get off me now."

He couldn't help but watch the way her eyes lit up while she had a staring contest with he beluga whale. It brought a big, brotherly smile to his face.

Finally, she whined for him to get off, and slowly, very slowly, he released her. Her face had a big pink mark on it.

"I think you've made a new friend," Fred observed, "maybe we should try to go for a swim with it.... They do that here?"

Ginny stepped away from the tank, grateful that Fred was no longer squashing her.

"I don't think you can swim with the belugas. Besides they are arctic whales so that water would be freezing." Ginny didn't even want to think about how cold that water would be. It made her bones ache at the thought.

"Spoil sport," Fred laughed as they wandered towards the exit. "And you're a witch, you could charm yourself warm!"

He smiled and pushed her lightly, playfully.

"Where to now?"
