When I was down south and spending some time with
captainspam, we chatted a bit about Stepmania, the free Dance Dance Revolution clone. I remember trying it a few years ago, but (besides any hardware issues) I was disappointed by the fact that all the songs I could find for it were different foot patterns for songs you could already dance to in DDR. I fail to see the appeal of that. What makes Stepmania so neat is that you could, if you wanted, make a routine for Weird Al Yankovic's Hardware Store.
Of course, there's a dark side to allowing people to make any foot patterns for any song you could dream of, which
this video reminded me of. Namely, that people can make insane routines. I mean, seriously. There are points in that video where you have to hit all four arrows at once! And there must be a good 900 steps in total! I think even
captainspam would find that impossible to do on the floor.
It's great that someone was creative enough to come up with this. Now we need some songs for mere mortals.
