biking!

i put my slick tires on my bike today and went out for a practice road ride. i knew the tires would make a huge difference but it still surprised me, i went for 25 miles and could have done more, but riding on the roads at night is asking for trouble, the rooty/rocky trails are much safer for that! i even hit a new top speed on a long downhill (12 ( Read more... )

What's the scoop on Sunday? As you may know, I'm there on Sundays anyway -- I'd love to meet up and say hello or w/e.

i'll be lining up with thousands of other people at battery park at 8:00am. i don't know how possible it would be to meet up during the ride. (the map is here) and i don't think my brother and i will be staying afterwards (due to general tiredness and not getting a good nights sleep the day before).

Alright, fair enough. Some other time then. Maybe today I'll bring my bike home with me when I come back to Newark (goin' to my dad's to get some yardwork done).

My boyfriend did the MS150 (bike ride from Houston to Austin) for the second time this year and another of my friends is really big into biking. So even though I'm not very into biking myself, I still find it interesting :)

is that actually 150 miles as it sounds like? that is really impressive. last year my brother did a 100 mile new york trip, and that wiped him out. i don't think i could do 100 on the mountain bike (and buying a road bike at this point is impossible), they ddo have shorter 50 and 75 mile routes generally though, and i know i could do 50, maybe 75 by the end of the season..

yeah, i just got back into it last summer, and it is taking over my life.

Yeah, it's somewhere thereabouts. Actually, the website says 180. It's done over two days. The first year he did it on a mountain bike, this year he borrowed a road bike. He was going to do it on his mountain bike again, but his back derailer broke two days before the race and nobody would fix it in time. The road bike makes it shorter anyway by whatever percentage. He was pretty wiped out the first year, but this year he said it almost felt like he hadn't even done it. Wasn't very sore or anything. I think he's crazy, personally.

wow, that is awesome, the fact that he did it on a mountain bike is impressive. i have enjoyed road biking these past few days, but i know once this event is done i'll go right back to mountain biking until i decide to do another similar event. it's a shame, because i'd build up better stamina doing the road stuff. ah well, i'm having fun, that's what it is all about anyway.
