Room 512: morning

Evie hadn't needed to sleep with the teddy bear last night, but she was rather sad that she had to go back to wearing skirts and blouse. Why hadn't she packed more dig clothes?

Still, at least she'd met some more new people yesterday-- Agnes seemed quite nice, Peter and Nadia and Pip had been helpful, and Dean Forrester had been nice and handsome ( Read more... )

Janet was wandering the fifth floor, checking out the new students, when she saw a girl who seemed to have about twice as many books as anything else. That sort of thing was always checking out.

"How goes the unpacking?" asked Janet, leaning in the doorway.

Evie surfaced from the depths of her trunk and blew her hair out of her eyes. "Rather more trouble than packing was, though I didn't think that was possible." She gave the redhead at the door a cheerful grin and said, "Hello! I'm Evie Carnahan. I'd invite you in," she looked around at every surface covered by books, while she tried to figure out what order to shelve them in, "But I'm afraid there's nowhere to sit down."

"You may have more books than Liz and I combined," said Janet, laughing. "Which I didn't think was possible. Janet Fraiser." She stepped inside, around a teetering stack of books, and looked at the stack on Evie's bed. "Need a hand?"

"It's not nearly as many as I wanted to bring, but my mother convinced me I should be able to buy books here, too," Evie confessed. "*Could* you put that stack on the floor, please? It's gotten a bit out of control." She smiled brightly. "Who's Liz? Your roommate?"
