Evie was carefully knocking the rainwater off her hat as she opened the door to her room. "Why don't you have a seat while I make the cocoa? I've quite mastered the microwave now."
"Isn't it?" Evie blew on her cup of cocoa as she handed him one as well. "I think of all the time I spent waiting for kettles and pots to boil, and this is *so* much simpler. They don't have microwaves in your home, either?"
"A firebender? Like Zuko?" Evie vaguely remembers Katara mentioning this. "And we have stoves. Coal or gas, we just got the latter in my home in London. You have to be so careful with those. Not like this little cute box here." Evie patted the microwave, then went rummaging in her cupboard. "Marshmellows?"
"Goodness. And oh!" Evie's eyes had been widening as Sokka got started, so she hastily held up the bag. "Little chewy sugar things! I adore them. They float!"
Evie poured half a dozen mini-marshmellows into his mug, and then added just as many to her own. "They melt if you leave them in there very long, but I like it if they're just a *little* soaked and chewy." She sighed happily. "There's so many different kinds of food here, too, as well as technology. I shall miss it when I go home quite a bit."
Encouraged, Evie pulled out the tin from under her bed. "I have biscuits, too. Sugar and cinnamon. My mother sends them to me every few weeks, so I don't get homesick." She offered him the tin, and settled down in her armchair, bouncing a little. "How is Momo Junior, by the way? Did you ever get him a little pen?"
Sokka wolfed down two cookies, and was about to grab a third when he realized that, well, they were hers and he should leave her some. "These are good!" he said.
"Uh... He's fine. Yeah, I ended up getting him a cage after all. And special chinchilla food, and wood to gnaw on, and all kinds of stuff. He's one happy little gerbilsquirrel."
He leaned back against the wall and shrugged at her. "Sooooooo... Where are you from, anyway? You seem almost as lost here as I am."
"I'm from England-- that's on the other side of the ocean-- and ninety years ago. That's why I'm rather displaced." Evie looked rueful, and helped herself toa biscuit. "A great deal happened in the last century, huge wars, and all this new technology, and changes in the way people work and talk and-- well. I'm very old-fashioned, compared to most of the students here." She smiled brightly. "And huzzah for new pet accomodations! All we have are plants, but Layla's quite fond of them."
"Wow. I'm not even from this same world, I don't think. I mean, I've looked at LOTS of maps. Of the whole world. And Virginia isn't anywhere on them. Or England."
"Lots of students aren't from here. This planet, or this world, or wherever." Evie nodded, and nibbled on another cookie. "Or they have different world leaders, or they're from the future. What's the name of your country?"
Sokka grabbed another cookie for himself and smiled at her.
"I'm from the Southern Water Tribe. At the South Pole. It's not all that big a nation, but it's home." With pride, he added, "My dad's the chief of the tribe, and my grandmother's in charge while he's away at war."
"It is, rather. I'd never even heard of a place like this before I arrived." Evie's eyes widened. "Ooo. The South Pole! I don't think anyone lives there in my world. And your grandmother's the chief right now? That's very enlightened. Women just obtained the right to vote in my England."
"Technology is AWESOME," he said to her as he watched her use the microwave.

"We have fire. Take your pick: wood, oil, or coal. Or you could get a firebender to heat things up, if they don't try to kill you first."

It's everybody's favorite time, Hating On Zuko Time!
But, of course, Evie interrupted Sokka's rage before it could build too far. He looked up at her. "Marsh-- wha?"

He sipped at the cocoa and got a mouthful of marshmallow. "Mmm! Hey, these are good!"
