I think this weekend wins as the best I've had in a long time.
It started with the Hallowedding. One of his co-workers decided to have a Halloween wedding, which I thought was a pretty cool idea. They rented the
opera house in Grand Ledge. It was a beautiful day, and after the outdoor ceremony, we headed inside the opera house for the reception. The place looked AMAZING. It was lit for Halloween and had all sorts of beautiful decor. The centerpieces were jack-o-laterns and scattered around the table were all sorts of Halloween favors. It was so beautifulHere's how it looked:
After a delicious dinner, everyone was invited to change into costumes. I was worried that Brett and I would be the only ones, but people really got into it and I'd say a good 75% of people had costumes. Then, the mother of the bride came in with a HYOOGE box of Halloween costume pieces and passed them out so that no one would feel left out. Even the bride and groom had costumes. The dancing began, and, shortly thereafter, there was a costume contest (Brett and I won the Funniest Costume award).
The thing that was SO amazing about this idea (other than a spectacular venue) was that everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time. Sometimes weddings leave people feeling stuffy and confined in clothes that they don't normally wear. People were laid back and just enjoying themselves. I think more people should consider this idea.
Yesterday morning, Brett and I got up and he asked if I'd like to go ring shopping. (I KNOW!!!!) After a "meh" kind of experience at Kay (not too happy with my not wanting a diamond ring), we went to an independent store. They had a lot of things to choose from and are very willing to custom-build whatever we want. After looking through a catalog, I think I may have found the ring. I decided that what I probably want to do is have a ring with his birthstone (blue topaz) and mine (alexandrite). The setting that I am having ordered in (so I can see if it really is what I want) is kind of an antiquey white gold design with two round stones side by side. Next weekend, we'll go check it out.
In the evening, we went to roller derby with JC and his girlfriend. It was a great match and we had many, many laughs.
Brett had a nerdament today, so I headed home at noon. As I was driving home, I reached into my purse only to find that Sundown, Brett's cat, had deposited her mouse toy in there. It seems she has officially accepted me into the family by presenting me with a dead thing.
A great, great weekend.
(Which kind of got ruined by a kitchen disaster this evening. My delicious dinner was baking away in the oven when the pan suddenly EXPLODED, sending glass everywhere. So, I had to go find myself some dinner. Not at all the same as eating cheese tortellini with pumpkin cream sauce.)
