Closing out 2006 - The Year of New and Bleargh!

Dec 28, 2006 22:26

Those are the two words that will best describe 2006 for me.  In thinking about all that has happened in the last year, my life feels like it took a dangerous trek into outer Bi-Polaria...

In 2006, I:

- finished my Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (nerd!)
 - started THE BIG WEED in the library (not nearly as exciting or illegal as it sounds)
 - tried tofu (no need for that one again)
 - auditioned for a musical
 - performed in said musical
 - bought a condo
 - decluttered my living space (if only my office would do the same!)
 - got in touch with two old friends
 - made a few new ones
 - had pneumonia
 - bought a camera phone
 - started a LiveJournal
 - did not rip down the "art" of the significant other
 - made my OWN art
 - told my dad the truth about things he needed to hear from me
 - read too few books
 - became way too unhealthy
 - cried in my boss's office
 - got a milestone raise
 - made ends meet
 - found myself in a major funk
 - made three horrible dinners in a row
 - told a class of 4th graders they had "no integrity"
 - sanded, primed, and stained my cartoon fireplace
 - talked a lot more with the cuz
 - tried to be a good friend
 - cut back on spending
 - bought no Christmas presents  :(
 - laughed at the duck in my pond
 - called my mother religiously each week
 - wrote a technology curriculum for the district
       - only to have it sit on the tech director's shelf without board approval
 - did not slander a co-worker (coming in 2007!)
 - successfully converted the library to a new circ system
 - took days off
  - did not have to move out of Michigan because of a new Governor.
 - spent way too much time being sad
 - spent way too little time doing good deeds
 - talked myself out of too many things

Best moment of 2006:  At the workshop audition for the play, shocking the musical director with the fact that I had never sung alone before in public.  That moment changed a lot of things for me.

Worst moment of 2006:  Toss up.  I would either have to say thinking of the mortality of my parents thanks to Dad's stroke or hearing the news that my grandmother wished she'd never had kids.

Favorite movie of 2006:  I enjoyed both The Illusionist and The Prestige for the totally different takes on the same topic.  Borat was delightfully offensive.  Superman Returns was pretty to look at.  The Pursuit of Happyness was downright cute.

Favorite song of 2006: Faster Pussycat by Oakenfold featuring Brittany Murphy

Favorite book read in 2006:  Ptolemy's Gate by Jonathon Stroud.  This is the 3rd book in the Bartimaeus Trilogy.  If you like fantasy, you MUST read this series.  The main character is one of the best characters I've ever found in a book.  For a tear-jerker, I really loved Becoming Naomi Leon by Pam Munoz Ryan.  Bawled my eyes out at the hairmesser.

Favorite stuff on TV:  Heroes and Deal or No Deal were my "can't miss" shows of the year.  At Mark's, I also enjoyed watching Rome, Drawn Together and Battlestar Galactica.  I am saddened that they are canceling Stargate:SG1.  Can't wait for Lost to start airing new episodes again.

Most shocking revelation of 2006:  Matt's moving to NYC.
