Unexpected Exercise

Jul 20, 2012 00:23

This weekend I was due to visit a friend in Sheffield, but her little boy hasn't been well so I am left unexpectedly free. In some ways it is good because I was away last weekend, will be next, and working the following. I have also taken a bit of a plunge and entered the Race for Life on Sunday...

My Nan was frail for all the time I knew her. In the mid 1970s she was diagnosed with cancer. They cured the cancer but the treatment left her with major health problems, but it gave me my Nan until I was almost seventeen. My other Grandmother died of breast cancer when I was about four, and I have no memories of her. In both cases the treatment has advanced so much in the past twenty years.

In the last couple of years my oldest friend has lost her mother, a close school friend has lost her sister, and I have lost a very dear family friend and surrogate uncle. My Grandad was successfully treated for stomach cancer, and several work colleagues have been battling the disease. I've wanted to do the Race for Life for several years but have always been working, and I put it on my list of 100 Challenges. Mol cancelling on me was a sign...

I haven't been training so I'm aiming to run the first 3K and jog/walk the rest.
