Do you know what I fancy right now? Jelly. Honest to goodness jelly, preferably orange, although I like lime and blackcurrent, and rainbow layers would be fabulous. My Nan used to make the jelly in particular moulds with ribbed edges, and she always made the mixture much stronger than Mum did so it was more rubbery. The jelly was never turned out, and I always had to scoop the ribs with my little finger to get the last of it out.

We were often given jelly at parties, and I remember Wally's Windmill at Great Yarmouth providing pink (strawberry?) stuff with a blob of fake cream and hundred and thousands on top. Cold custard and hundreds and thousands made a good fake trifle.

Jelly on the plate/jelly on the plate/wibble wobble wibble wobble/jelly on the plate - isn't it bizarre the things you remember?
