SG-1 ficlet: "Colonel Creations" (Jack, gen)

Ficlet(?) for uhsir, who requested "SG1, Jack, napkin". I tried to do a drabble, but the idea was too long, so it's about 450 words. I hope you enjoy it! :)

Colonel Creations

“…which is why I think it would be in our best interest to help out the inhabitants of P2L-668.”

Jack’s head fell back against the top of his chair as Daniel finished speaking. He stole another glance at his watch. That couldn’t be right. They’d been in here for nearly an hour already? Aww, hell. Now Carter was standing up to use the dry erase board. Jack glanced at Teal’c. The Jaffa’s eyes looked slightly glazed over. Maybe he was daydreaming. Or kel-no-whatever-ing. Jack looked the other direction, toward the general. To his surprise, Hammond was alert and actually looked interested in whatever Carter was prattling on about.

Jack fiddled with his ballpoint pen and looked down at the briefing folder in front of him. He was pretty sure that doodling on official classified documents was frowned upon…but he was so bored. Suddenly, he had an idea. He reached for the napkin that had come with the plate of cake he’d gotten from the mess hall. He pulled his briefing folder into his lap where no one could see, and placed the napkin on top of it. Jack clicked his pen as quietly as he could and began drawing.

A basic stick-figure began to form on the napkin. He gave it a jacket, pants, boots, and a floppy hat. Then he drew a giant pair of glasses that nearly took up the stickman’s whole face. Jack drew a speech bubble above the man. “Blah blah blah special culture. Blah blah blah archaeology.”

Now Jack drew a second stick-figure. He gave this one a similar jacket, pants, and boots, but no hat. With a slight smirk, he drew two huge circles on the stickwoman’s chest. He gave her short hair and then started on her speech bubble. “Blah blah wormhole, blah blah theoretical astrophysics. Blah blah blah incredibly advanced piece of technology.”

Towards the edge of the napkin, Jack drew a much bigger stickman, crouching in the direction of the other two. He drew a squiggle resembling a worm on the stickman’s forehead and put a massive staff weapon in his stick-fist. Jack drew a speech bubble above the stickman’s head, but then his pen hesitated. Carter continued to drone on as Jack tried to think of an appropriate caption. Finally, he settled on an idea. He quickly scribbled in, “Indeed.”

“Colonel?”

Jack’s head snapped up. “What?” he asked, feeling like a deer in the headlights.

“Captain Carter just asked if you approved of her and Dr. Jackson’s plan for aiding the inhabitants of the planet?”

Jack glanced around the table. Hammond, Carter, and Daniel were looking at him expectantly. Teal’c still appeared meditative. “Uhh…” Jack’s gaze flitted down to his drawing, then back up to Carter. “Indeed.”
