A double-drabble for
ljmckay, who requested "Ducky, day off". Consider it a birthday present, Scooter-Pie. :D
"Wrong Impressions"
Ducky smiled as the young couple listened with rapt expressions. He’d been delighted to answer the woman’s simple question. Frankly, he was just happy to see young people taking an interest in the arts.
“Monet was the leader of French Impressionism. Interestingly enough, the term ‘Impressionism’ was derived from this very painting, Impression, soleil levant.” He swept his arm to the left, indicating the large canvas depicting boats floating beneath a sunrise.
“And he was the one who cut off his ear?” the woman asked.
“Ahh, no.” The medical examiner smiled kindly. “That would be Vincent van Gogh. He was Dutch, actually, and part of the Post-Impressionism movement.”
“Oh.”
“He is very well-known for his painting The Starry Night, of which there is a copy right over there.” He gestured to the next room in the gallery.
“Thank you very much.” The woman took her date’s hand and wondered away to see the aforementioned van Gogh. “The people who work here are so nice,” she commented to her beau as they left Ducky standing by the Monet.
‘Such a lovely couple,’ Ducky thought to himself. ‘But it’s strange…she’s the third person today to assume that I am a gallery employee…’
My apologies for the fact that Impression, soleil levant is actually on display in Paris, France.
I also apologize for anything else I may have gotten wrong, as all details were raped (but not plagiarized!) from a few Wikipedia entries. ;)
