So far the egg count is at 4 a piece. The Ladies were in a race earlier, I think, but they've pulled even with one another. Mom says it's really quiet in the house all day now, because they just hide out in their Sleepy Teepees, nesting away. Lena accepted some head scratches yesterday morning, but Doris wants nothing to do with me.
I'm in charge of the turkey this year, and - due to the size of our dining party - I had to get a 22 pounder. That is a hell of a lot of turkey to brine, let me tell you. Plus cooking time is going to be 5 hours or something. But it will be worth it. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, y'all. So let me wish you all a really good one. Even when you're ready to strangle family members or totally confused by Gramma June's recitation of an old Finnish prayer you can't understand or even hear very well because she's 93, remember it's all about love. And in the end, what does love really cost you? Once in a while a broken heart, but for the most part it seems to me the returns far outweigh the investment.
Good god. Here endeth the Hallmark Moment. *scrubs brain*
How about book recommendations? I'm just finishing up The List of Seven by Mark Frost. I wasn't remotely prepared for this book. It's a delightful surprise and very well written. Historical, with Arthur Conan Doyle as the main character(pre-Sherlock Holmes writing) and just marvelous. Scary, laugh-out-loud funny and just a good yarn. I'm going to have to buy the next one today, despite dire financial considerations this month. And anyone who loves Jane Austen should definitely be reading the series of mysteries by Stephanie Barron -- her ability the capture Jane Austen's period, personality and tone are incredible. This latest volume, Jane and His Lordship's Legacy is working well for me. It also keeps up my image at work here as "that chick who's always reading". I guess we all have our little crosses to bear.
