School. Frustration. Time suck.
One of the appeals of VCU's RN to BSN program was that there was no pre-requisite for Statistics. You'd never know it by the quiz I took last night. The "open book" quizzes for this class have been fairly easy because I can have all the readings open and the textbook at my side while I take the quiz. I can "control-F" and I've been able to do well on the previous two quizzes, even with the threatened shut-off within 1 hour. Last night's quiz had two hours to complete it, but even with all of my resources at my side or open online, I ended up relying on Google or Wikipedia to look up statistical terms and concepts that were not in the readings. I will be commenting about this in the class review.
It's almost done, though. Online classes in some ways permit less work. Open book quizzes permit less work. So am I learning as much as I would have in a traditional setting? I doubt it. Next semester is one class but it is back to the "meet once a month" format. Probably it will involve some group project or something since it's community health.
I'm sort of feeling a bit of burnout so I will be glad to have my summer off and presumably a lighter load in the spring.
I think, though, the most annoying part of being a student is not having the time to do the important vs. constant dealing with the urgent. Of course Ivy tends to be among my urgent duties as well.
Work is good, although the conferences and NRP class have kept me away from patients of late. And we're about to commence computer charting at work for lactation, so that will give some additional demands on me - as the "super-user". I'll be the one to help our department as we struggle our way through learning about it all.
And since I have a baby lying on my lap, I will close this entry. She is making typing challening!
