I just finished a book. It was an uncomplicated read but such a great story.
same kind of different As me. is co-written by Ron Hall and Denver Moore and was recommended to me by my sister. The sub-title is "a modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and the unlikely woman who bound them together". My sister admits to occasional teary moments as she read it. I was sad to see it end and admit the same.
The chapters alternate with Mr. Hall giving one perspective and then Mr. Moore taking the next chapter. Mr. Moore's chapters are written in his own dialect and give a deeper experience as you can truly "hear" his voice. The story of how they meet and the slow transition from fear (Ron's) and suspicion (Denver's) to deep, abiding friendship between the two men is truly moving.
There is a lot to be "googled" about the book at this point, and there is a website specifically about the book. I suggest, though, that it be read without a lot of foreknowledge about the details of their story - and then do the internet searches about it afterwards. I enjoyed reading it with their story revealed as I read.
Tavis Smiley does an
interview of the pair that's good to listen to after you read the book.
