Character Notes:
History:
Soul Eater is terrible at establishing backstories for a lot of its characters, even its leads. This is what we know:
-Maka is the daughter of Spirit, the Death Scythe currently chosen as Shinigami's personal weapon, and the meister who trained him. Maka's mother is one of the greatest meisters in the world.
-Maka's father is a terrible womanizer, causing her parents to become separated and eventually divorced. Maka's mother is off somewhere, and while her father remains in Death City, Maka does not live with him. She and her partner Soul share an apartment.
-From a young age, Maka has strived to be like her mother. At this point, she is also determined to prove that she can train a weapon to surpass her father.
-Either shortly before or shortly after enrolling in Death Weapon Meister Academy, Maka first met Soul Eater Evans. The two of them hit it off well and decided to become partners.
-Both were determined to rise to the top and turn Soul into a Death Scythe quickly. They worked hard, and collected 99 souls that had become Kishin eggs in a remarkably short amount of time.
-Unfortunately, for soul number 100 they targeted not a witch as they were supposed to obtain, but a cat with strong magic. As a result they had to forfeit all the souls they had previously collected and start over. This is where canon begins.
Maka will be taken from after the "Battle for Brew" arc. This means that she's been through the following:
-In Italy, Maka had her battle with Crona, during which Soul was severely injured and infected with the black blood. After this, Maka became extremely determined to be a strong meister who could protect her partner from harm. And after their efforts to better resonate succeeded, the black blood was passed on in some part to Maka as well.
-On the night Shibusen celebrated its anniversary, Maka took part in fight to stop the witch Medusa from releasing the kishin Asura, who had been imprisoned beneath Shibusen. During this Maka fought Crona again, risking using the black blood and its insanity. Maka got through to Crona through this fight, and the two became friends. On the bad side...Asura was released.
-Crona (and Ragnarok) joined Shibusen, and Maka did her best to help Crona adjust to this new life.
-On an assignment in Europe, Maka, Soul, Crona, and Ragnarok had the misfortune to be on the scene as the witch Arachne was revived.
-Shibusen, already gearing up to combat Asura, changed gears to focus on beating Arachne and her organization, Arachnophobia. Maka and the other students started undergoing more intense training, particularly in order to fight as larger groups.
-Shibusen students were sent to acquire the demon tool Brew before Arachnophobia could. Maka, Black Star, Death the Kid, and their partners personally battled Arachne's foremost servant, Mosquito. In spite of using the best techniques they had available, they lost. (Though Mosquito actually only got a replica of Brew. Medusa managed to get the real thing.)
Personality:
Maka is a smart, responsible girl determined to do her best in the world, but burdened with a number of issues.
Maka is quite intelligent. She likes to think things through, whether she's considering different aspects of a situation or making a detailed plan of attack. She's perceptive, trying to notice everything she can and to make measured judgements of most people and situations. She's good at connecting the dots. She likes to analyze. She enjoys learning. Her hobbies are reading and doing puzzles. Also reading.
She takes what she wants to do and her responsibilities very seriously. She works hard to be as good as she possibly can, whether it's a history test or fighting abilities. She believes in providing a good example to others. When she makes a commitment, she follows through completely. This can land her in trouble, as she overworks herself in order to be stronger for her partner or takes on a much stronger opponent out of the belief that she is obligated to defend the ideals Shibusen stands for. Still, it's mostly a strength, helping her be prepared for many situations and giving her some confidence to stand on.
She has a proud attitude much of the time, and is ready to show her irritation with foolish behavior by hitting people over the head with books. She's not one to suffer idiocy gladly, and has been known to lecture people on what their priorities ought to be. Still, she has a sense of fun and can enjoy goofing off or watching others do so. She's not the stereotypical antisocial bookworm. While it's true that left to her own devices she's more likely to read than to join others in a game, she gets along well with her classmates, spending time with them and showing genuine interest and concern for their well-being. Her friends are the most important people in the world to her. She's very close to quite a few of them, and will go to extreme lengths for them. Her family may not be reliable, but her friends are, and she never, ever wants to let them down.
In spite of her evident pride and all the reasons she has to be confident, Maka is terrified that she's not good enough and that she'll be abandoned. Her father, after all, was constantly chasing after other women instead of staying with his wife and child. And that drove his wife, who Maka was fairly dependent on, far away. This has given Maka abandonment issues and a large inferiority complex which leaves her half-convinced that she could be left alone at any moment, and that she deserves to be left alone unless she can prove that she's worth something to others.
Other:
Maka has "soul perception," an ability which is getting stronger all the time. It allows her to see people's souls (which can give a basic impression of them) and to determine how many people are in the area.
I would be restarting her.

Wiki First Person (entry type):
Here's an example. And another for good measure. Third Person:
She had been looking at the photo album again. Phone calls were fine, but she did miss seeing her mother. Not that she didn't understand why mama had left. Maka grit her teeth, recalling the time papa had taken her out to eat and one of the waitresses had turned out to be another ex-girlfriend of his. The woman had made such a scene they were thrown out of the place. Maka'd come back and made dinner herself.
Hard to reconcile that with these pictures. Three people smiling in a park. More smiles at birthday parties. On her first day of school.
When she got to the end of the album, Maka realized that there were only two pictures with Soul. And of course none at all with all her other friends, Tsubaki, Kidd, Black Star, Liz, Patty, Chrona.
And there were pages left. Room for different smiles.
They hadn't all been to the park yet, come to think of it. Maybe it was time for a picnic. They could try basketball again, and maybe someone would actually tell her the rules this time.
Things changed. Not for the better, really. But not for the worse.
