Hi all!
I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for literary ghost stories? Awhile ago, someone was looking for "haunted house books" on my flist and this inspired me to re-read Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House and James' "Turn of the Screw" and now I really, really would like more. I've read Anne Rivers Siddon's The House Next Door, which I found sufficiently creepy and Matheson's Hell House, which I did not. I like ghost stories in general, really like them if the story has a good sense of place. I really enjoy ghost stories that are ambiguous (is the protagonist really seeing this stuff?) but if it isn't ambiguous, I prefer the haunting to be explicitly supernatural as opposed to some other, natural explanation. Ghost stories featuring houses or haunted buildings are awesome, but any will do.
Thanks!
