Satisfied
By: Booksprite

They push you up,
Tell you you have to be strong to live,
Tell you to walk before you’re ready.
So you fall,
And cry.
Because you aren’t up to par
with what they want.
You can’t walk;
be satisfied with crawling.
But of course you can’t, can’t be satisfied with just existing,
You have to live:
So you force yourself up again
And fall
Back down again.
You learn to crawl
You can’t walk
You aren’t good enough for them.
You have to crawl along the floors,
Waiting for them to drop
The scraps from their plates
Just for you to eat.
You can’t live,
Can’t walk,
Just existing,
Just crawling,
You have to be satisfied with that.
You’re just a dog, they tell you.
You just sit there,
Waiting for us to hand you your food.
Go and make your own way
in this world,
They tell you.
But you can’t.
Because when you walked,
They pushed you down,
And you never learned to walk
You have to crawl along the floors.
Crawling on the dirt,
They tell you you aren’t a bit better than it.
You never learned to walk,
to put one foot in front of another.
You have to crawl,
You have to lean on them for support.
You’re broken,
Down on your knees,
Just crawling like the dog you are,
Just as worthless as dirt;
‘Cause you never learned
How to put one foot in front of the other.
They tell you to start living
That someday you have to live,
Someday you’ll have to walk.
But you can’t,
You can only crawl,
Down on your knees,
Never learned how to put one foot in front of the other.
You can’t walk,
You can’t live,
You have to be satisfied with crawling,
You have to be satisfied with existing,
‘Cause you’ll never walk
You’ll never live,
You never learned to put one foot in front of the other.
