I was randomly browsing through fics today and I ran across a bunch of hikago fics by radiosilence over at Dreamwidth.

So I clicked on one randomly and went, ....WAIT A SEC.

THAT IS IT, i can't really pinpoint anything concrete apart from what i posted above, it just FEELS REALLY SKEEVY. SKEEVEY? WHATEVER.

None of the Ouran pieces are MINE but they stink of phrases and things that sound like I've read it before like in la_foule, so unless this is bing or cathy incognito, this chick is a hack writer.

Well I don't feel right intimidating for Cathy without her consent first. And you don't order me around, loser.

Whatever, Cathy is a pushover, i try to urge her to think for herself and i only hear things like NIFFLER ALIEN BODYSNATCHERS, it is very disheartening.

I think from what Cathy said that the la_foule connection is definitely a ripoff along the same lines as the other hikago fics i mentioned.

i think i will wait to see if we find any other examples before reporting it. Cathy contacted her, too, so i will also wait to see if she responds.

The "Series of Less-than-fortunate Events" was something she wrote here for the latest blind_go -- and the nightengale was also another blind_go fic. I wonder why nothing was raised up when these fics were first posted to blind_go...

Well, partly it's coincidence: if I'd noticed the fic similarities at the time, I would have said something about it to the blind_go mods. I haven't really been active in hikago fandom lately apart from casually reading fics (which is about as active as i've ever been to begin with).

but also, running across that *and* the plagiarism of Cathy's fic at the same time was really the clincher. By itself I might have written it off as a fluke or unconscious influence. Taken with the other examples (and derogatory pointed out another instance above), there's no way.

I read the fics at the time, but went through them too quickly to really notice the similarities. But yeah, the similarities with two-if-by-sea's fics are very much blatant, imo.

well, i mean, i only have vague notions about the other hikago fics because they aren't *mine* - it's not like i would really expect anyone else to twig to those particular parallel scenes between her fic and mine.

Oh, that's just vile. It's not word for word plagiarism but it's far too similar to be coincidence. Especially Cathy's (truly beautiful fic, and I've never heard of Hero). The little shit couldn't possibly have written that without Cathy's fic as reference.

To be perfectly honest? This post is a little sickening. I will admit there are similarities - I only read through the Cathy vs whoever else ones - but just because there are similar concepts explored (although the entire core message of most of the maps and territories one was something that was only explored peripherally in one paragraph by Cathy) doesn't mean it's plagiarism. And to be perfectly honest, I liked the maps and territories one better - the writing style, for one thing, seemed much more sophisticated and the images gripped me more. And unintentionally making a story similar = plagiarism? THAT right there is just...ew. No. If you are not DELIBERATELY passing off someone else's ideas as your own, then it's coincidence - NOT plagiarism.

I assume this wasn't supposed to go to my comment rather than the whole post, but let me assure you that the issue has caused enough wank years ago when it happened. I personally never apologized for the way I expressed myself here (though I remember vaguely that afterwards I read the webcomic in question and there wasn't enough in the *wording* of that to make me think the similarities in the language of both stories were entirely coincidental) but Aja has. I don't know why you bring this up now.
