So, LJ just told me that this entry is a finalist for their 10 year anthology.

In recent years *sighs fondly* LJ and I have had our differences, but lately they've done a lot of things right, and right now they are spotlighting verb_noire, which makes me out and out love them again, so it is with great affection that I make this post ( Read more... )

Jonathan (= Jack) is not the villain! I actually read an interview with the writer where AfterElton.com were like, SERIOUSLY ARE YOU DOING THE PANSY-ASS VILLAIN THING, and he was pretty adamant that he is not. Also he was talking about how... obviously... a lot of people know this story already, but that he doesn't want to execute it in such a way where you can just go read the Bible or check Wikipedia and then be like, "Oh, I know exactly how XYZ is going to happen."

I mean, that's... sort of what Rome did as well, tbh. They got you to most of the important history-book pit-stops, but they sure as hell took some liberties along the way for the sake of the story.

ANYWAY, the series already has a clearly defined villain for this arc, anyway, and I am pretty sure they are doing what they are doing with Jackathan to a) set him up as a foil for David now so that their eventual epic gay BFFdom is even more epic and gay, and b) laying the groundwork for conflict with Saul (=Silas). ALSO ALSO spoiler: after only trying to have him killed ONCE thankyouverymuch (because David keeps doing things like stopping wars that need to continue for [complicated reasons] and then starting them again right when Silas has figured out how to make things work WITHOUT war, and then crashing taxis into visiting enemy dignitaries), he has decided not to kill David, because he seems to bring good luck. I'm just saying.

Also; also; also.
