I just re-read this fic for the first time in an age and as is my want read the following comments.
I know its been a while since you wrote this but just wanted to say how much I felt for you.
This 'You know it's not real, right?' and this Or worse, have him watch the episode and have to hear his comments. is exactly why I don't watch the show with my BF. Although he mainly does it to annoy me and because he is a little jealous (he admitted it) of my obsession with the show.
I just want to say that parents can be like that and its not a bad thing that you don't enjoy the same things. Its just generational. When you get older and have finally become an adult in their eyes you can rip the shit out of them for watching and liking stuff that actually isn't far off what you enjoy.
I remember my parents thinking the Young Ones was awful, uncouth and had unnecessary extreme violence. A few years ago we were talking about it and I commented on the fact that my Dad loved Tom & Jerry cartoons that were nothing more that unecessary violence and full of Tom getting smacked with frying pans, being shot by shotguns etc,
Don't let it get you down. As for the forcing people to face their denial and not be able to hide under the titles of 'bromance', 'metrosexual' and 'oh, they didn't mean it like that'. To have the mainstream face a reality and have their world turned upside down and accept what is happening. hopefully we are closer to that day and I'm sure it will happen.
