TOP FIVE REASONS AKIRA AND HIKARU ARE MEANT FOR EACH OTHER
TOP FIVE BRILLIANT THINGS HOTTA AND OBATA HAVE DONE TO MAKE THIS STORY AMAZING

1.1 THE WAY THE LAST PANEL IS DEVOTED TO SAI, LIKE, THE WHOLE MANGA IS JUST UNSTINTINGLY DEVOTED TO THIS THEME OF SAI'S ETERNAL JOURNEY AND HOW IT'S THE ETERNAL JOURNEY OF GO ITSELF, AND IT'S ALMOST AS IF THE LAST PANEL IS SAI CALLING OUT TO THE READER FROM THE GO BOARD THE WAY HE DID TO HIKARU INITIALLY, AND THE WHOLE THING IS VERY MYSTICAL AND BEAUTIFUL AND I CRY NOW.
1.2 The full page spread where Touya is turned back towards Hikaru, waiting for Hikaru to follow him - because that's so metaphorical all by itself, not even going into the whole layout.
1.3 The whole last sequence, the dialogue and the narrative voices all coming together and overlapping over those final few pages. It just gets me in the gut every time.
1.4 the way Touya is looking at Hikaru in the bottom left panel of this page. You don't even need to see the look on his face, just his whole body language tells you that it's still this giant mystery for him, and he's feeling Shindou's hurt and confused by it too - look how much ( ... )

2.5 COMPLEMENTARY WARDROBES
2.4 HELLO THEY SERIOUSLY FALL IN LOVE AT AGE 12 AND WILL NOT ACTUALLY LET ANYONE ELSE INTERFERE WITH THEIR LOVE, SO BY VIRTUE OF SHEER ELIMINATION OF COMPETITION, THEY ARE THE ONLY TWO PEOPLE LEFT FOR EACH OTHER BY DEFAULT, SEEING AS THEY MOW DOWN ALL OTHERS WHO GET IN THE WAY.
2.3 Hikaru is the only person who's both simultaneously completely awestruck by Touya and unintimidated by him. Of all the other potential rivals around Touya, it's really obvious that Hikaru's the only one who *fits* with what he needs. It's not about actual Go skill, either. Ko Yeong Ha might have been a rival, but his play style is too vicious and aggressive to really inspire anything in Touya. Waya plays for the sheer joy of it, which is enough to keep him happy, but not enough to make him into a consistently competitive opponent. Ochi goes after Touya like he's the next big hurdle to achieving his own personal greatness, which has everything to do with his own ego but very little to do with Touya's Go ( ... )

2.2 Touya is a Go monk. He's the only person on earth who has the sheer strength of will and the overwhelming dedication and ruthless focus to knock Hikaru sideways and permanently reshape his entire life in one afternoon. He is exactly the example of what Hikaru needs to find in himself, and his personality is such that Hikaru can come up against him time after time after time because he knows that Touya will be there, Touya will still be looking for him. If Touya had given up on him after May 5, Hikaru very well might have as well, but Touya didn't, and won't ever, and Touya as a result was the first person Hikaru ran to after he played Isumi and realized that he could still play Go (oh my god); because they have a binding eternal rival contract, see, and they have that contract because Hikaru is so fixated on showing Touya what he's going to become, on showing him that he's doing it all just for him, that Touya can't not seek him out. Hikaru has so *much* faith in Touya. He's so very authentic, and everyone around ( ... )

4.1 when Akira LOST (duh)
4.2 when Akira allowed Shindou to play first board in the Hokuto Cup and didn't complain or pout or second guess at all
4.3 when Touya Meijin treated Hikaru with respect and interest when he turned up out of the blue in his hospital room
4.4 when Isumi fell out of contention in the pro qualifier
4.5 whenever Akira stumbles across Hikaru by surprise and is all "He's here!!!!<3<3" (like at the first school-age Go tournament that day he interviews at Kaio)
