heee, there's actually only a bit that's anime-centric, just the hikago fic i mentioned and the fact that if you squint, shirota/yanagi is a (really bad) stand-in for my prince of tennis otp, because they played their parts in the musicals. (yes, prince of tennis has musicals).
the rest of this post is mostly j-pop oriented. which is to say that if you can get beyond your confusion and want links or recs, or to have your nose shoved into Akame, the most wonderful RPS pairing ever ever that ever wore matching rings, were inseparable from childhood, and posed semi-nude for countless photoshoots before angstily and tearily parting ways and SEPARATING TO DIFFERENT CONTINENTS IN AN ENDLESS SHROUD OF MYSTERY AND HEARTACHE, I WILL BE HAPPY TO HELP. as i'm sure will half my friends list at this point asdjf.
A ROUGH/RAMBLY HOW TO INTRO TO KAT-TUN AND JEbookshopApril 16 2007, 15:45:10 UTC
okay, the following is really rough and confusing BUT NECESSARY TO YOUR HAPPINESS AND WELLBEING. :D
1) DOWNLOAD THE NEW ALBUM that trembles linked to here. both discs. listen incessantly.
this is KAT-TUN's first full album apart from a release of Greatest Hits since their official "debut" last year. KAT-TUN is made up of 6 members - the initials of the band are the initials of their names: Kazuya Kamenashi, (Kame), Akanishi Jin (just Jin), Taguchi Junnosuke (Taguchi or Jun or Junno), Tegomi Koki (just Koki), Ueda Tatsuya (Ueda), and Nakamaru Yuichi (Maru).
2) Read everything on this thread and follow all of Starla's links.
3) Watch Nobuta Wo Produce (which, actually, really really really REALLY should be #1 on this list, because apart from the fact that it is, like, instant gateway into the abyss of JE fandom, it is, hands-down, THE most amazing thing you will ever, ever, ever watch in your entire life. I'm not even joking. This show (which aired in fall 2005 and is only 10 eps long, and which I have uploaded all of in hardsubbed
( ... )
I am totally focusing on JE here, specifically, the major bands formed out of Johnny's Entertainment: in total there are: KAT-TUN, Tackey & Tsubasa (an extremely successful duo), Kanjani8 which has yet to debut despite being around for ages, NewS which is made up of a smattering of people from Kanjani 8 among others, Arashi which is the 3rd most successful band and its own special form of crack (read: Matsujun is really really hot and everyone else in the band is, uh, really really gay), Shuji to Akira which is just Kame and Yamapi going duo for Nobuta, and the latest, Tegomass (spelling?) which is a duo formed by 2 members who left NewS (which shuffles members more than a call girl shuffles her engagement calendar).
THIS IS ALL VERY CONFUSING AND HARD TO FOLLOW, I KNOW. The reason I'm going on about JE is that that's where the majority of LJ fandom is and especially KAT-TUN, whom my friensd all unabashedly love.
There is also another entertainment agency, D-Boys, headlined by Shirota Yuu and Yanagi, who just to make matters
( ... )
if you just want, you know, PRETTY MUSIC, then I recommend starting with Rie Fu and/or Angela Aki (which I need to really upload soon). They're both female j-pop singers with a very americanized rock feel. And their English is great. It's a good way to segue into.
But *hugs* for the rest of your day.

OR YOU COULD JUST LISTEN TO "SUPERNOVA" OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
