So tomorrow is a HUGE DAY for the Lizzie Bennet Diaries fandom. There definitely is one, and it's actually one of the most delightful fandoms I've come across in a while, even if my interaction with it has been almost totally in YouTube comments and on Tumblr.

In case you missed my earlier flailing, the Lizzie Bennet Diaries is a retelling of ( Read more... )

ALSO I HAVE TO ADMIT

I've never read the book before although I do know the plot very well (or so I think). Even though I'm super interested in the Lizzie Bennet Diaries and I suppose in some way the movie I don't think I'll ever read the book unless something magic happens to me. It's probably because I suspect it's going to turn out like watching that old James Bond movie. I just can't be interested in an old style of story telling? I'M A HORRIBLE PERSON?

I've read Pride and Prejudice dozens of times and I have parts of it memorized and I think the prose is wonderful, light and snarky and absolutely brimming with humor. I find it completely fresh and not "old" at all, but I am totally biased.

I would also recommend, as pretty much everyone would, watching the 1995 BBC P&P starring Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. It's iconic on numerous levels, gorgeously made and beautifully acted, and is also the most faithful adaptation of the book (though I would argue this one is also extremely faithful in its own way). Also Darcy jumps into a pool while wearing a white shirt. (Thanks, Andrew Davies. Thanks.)

Hahaha thanks. I wish I could actually want to read the book, because it seems like a lot of people enjoy it, but I'm also the person who hasn't read a book for pleasure since middle school.

But I'm totally a fan of this vlog format! ANYWAY. I AGREE. IT'S AWESOME. Aside from the story of Pride and Prejudice it's just so awesome to see how well liked this series is. I started watching when Hank Green asked viewers to go check it out because if the episodes got less than 100k they wouldn't be able to pay for it but now it's like this /hand waves
