And you know that what I'm talking about in this post would not have coalesced so clearly in recent months without you talking about alternate radical cultural systems for the last 12 months, ADDITIONAL FANDOM HERO <3

Have you watched Good Copy Bad Copy, by the way? I guess it's the same sort of message as RiP and the others, but I think it gets at the formation of alternate economic models a little differently.

HEY YOU KNOW WHAT THIS SHOULD BE. OR WHAT YOU SHOULD MAKE A POST FOR. FANDOM APPRECIATION! WHERE WE ALL TELL STORIES ABOUT THESE MOMENTS WE HAVE HAD IN FANDOM THAT MADE US OVERCOME WITH LOVE! BECAUSE I THINK THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

WE STILL NEED TO DO RECS. BOOK RECS AND MOVIE RECS, APPARENTLY. :D

actually what i would love to do is a post where everyone talks about their favorite works of fanfic, in all fandoms, from a literary standpoint. Just, like. Why these works of literature have value, why they are important, why they matter.

AND NOW I WANT TO REREAD THE H/D REVIVAL POST AGAIN. :(

also Kara! It is officially MAY 5th. HAPPY HIKAGO DAY <33333333333333333333333333333

People who call you one of their favorite authors, and mean "favorite authors in a universe of literature, not just fanfic." (Which I know, because that's how I feel about my favorite fanfic authors.)

so true.

Also, I was thinking about this issue today: do you realize how amazing it is that on a majority of the stories written people add disclaimers? It's part of fandom etiquette, really, thousands of people taking the time to credit the author of the original work (not that fanfic isn't one giant shout-out to begin with)

This is both very true and very, um, thought-provoking actually, because I usually engage in fandom on a much less critical, introspective level and much more squeeing and jumping up and down - but nonetheless, I am in perfect agreement with the non-commercial currency of fandom and the way it's central to creating and maintaining the community.

I just had the That Discussion with my mother again recently - you know, the one where she cocks her head a bit to the side and goes "yes, but is internet fandom really a valid social circle", and I try to point out that I'm not just talking about exchanging pointless email surveys and memes ( ... )

These posts have been AWESOME and have reminded me why, even though I'm not really active in fandom, I still regard it--as a system, a phenomenon--as something utterly awe-inspiring.
