Now that we're all recuperating from HP-Day . . .
Rowling has posted a letter of acknowledgments on her site, thanking everyone who has helped her (& Harry) throughout the years. Right about half-way through is a bit that I thought I'd excerpt for everyone here:
I also want to thank the booksellers everywhere, but particularly in the UK, because they were crucial to Harry's initial success, which was built, not on clever marketing, but on word-of-mouth recommendations by the highly knowledgeable people who staff our bookshops. Harry has become hard work for booksellers in later years, with embargoes and crowds making the whole business much more fraught, and much less intimate, than it used to be (thought many still throw themselves into the spirit of midnight openings); I am deeply grateful.
