Fred felt a shudder run through her when she looked down at Rupert and saw the state she was in. Part of her still couldn't get over that she caused that sort of reaction in him, even here in the middle of a shop. She nodded and got up from the lounge chair, going to find the salesman.
"Have you decided?" he asked, eyeing her up and down, making Fred straighten her dress nervously.
"Yes, we wanted two of the lounge chairs as well as that wrought iron patio set." She pointed to the set she was referring to as Rupert approached them, having obviously settled himself down. She let her husband take care of the rest of the sale and give him their new address.
While the salesman went to the back to to get the paperwork in order for them to sigh, she swallowed when Rupert told her about his plans for her, the words hitting her almost like a bolt of electricity deep inside her. "Your--you're definitely anything but stuffy," she managed whisper, tightening her hold on his arm. She was wishing the salesman hurried up as well because she wasn't sure she'd be able to take being in public like this much longer and having to behave.
Finally, the salesman returned, and once Rupert had signed everything, they headed outside. She looked up at him and whispered, "Home now?"
Giles chuckled at the look on his wife's face when she asked her question. "I do suppose we should before we end up being arrested," he said with a cheeky grin. He took his wife's hand and led her back to the car. Once there, Giles unlocked Fred's side of the vehicle and helped in her before jogging to the driver's side.
When he was inside, he glanced down at his watch, noting it wasn't even noon yet. He was a bit worried Fred's surprise wouldn't be there yet and that she'd see Andrew delivery it. It was quite large and couldn't be easily hid. Then he started to think about it even more and became to wonder if it was something he should've gotten her. Giles was beginning to think it was possibly the most unromantic gift ever.
He started the car and started for their flat. When they got there, Giles nervously swallowed when he saw the other car in the driveway. He parked his car and looked at Fred. "I love you and well, I am a guy and sometimes I don't make the best decisions," he said, glancing at the car in front of them. "It's yours. I got it for you as a wedding gift. I know I should've gotten you something horribly romantic like a necklace but, like I said, I was a lapse of judgment and if you don't want it, I'll send it back."
Fred's eyes went wide when she saw the car sitting in the driveway. "For me? You got that for me?" she asked. Letting out a squeal of delight, she turned to hug her husband, only to get caught in her seatbelt and pulled back against the passenger seat.
"Way to lose the moment," she muttered, undoing the belt so she wasn't confined anymore. She wrapped her arms around Rupert and hugged him tightly. "Thank you. It's a wonderful, amazing, generous, thoughtful...huge present. Of course I want it."
After giving him another hug and then kissing him deeply, she got out of the car to take a closer look at her own. It was green and a little bit smaller than Rupert's car, but it was perfect. She couldn't believe that he had gotten her something like this. It almost made her feel a bit funny about the gift she had bought for him. She knew it was silly - she was sure he'd like it - but still...he had given her a car.
Looking over at him, she smiled broadly. "Can we go for a drive in it? Maybe out to the country?" she asked. "I'd need to get something from the flat before we do, but could we?"
