Fred smiled up at Rupert before he headed out of the kitchen before turning to look over at Lorne. "You're looking a lot better this morning," she told him. "How's the arm?"
"Definitely better," he responded. "For once, I feel like I can actually rest and live my life and not be looking over my shoulder, wondering what's going on behind those office doors. As for my arm, it's a bit itchy, but that's good, I'd imagine."
She nodded before taking another sip of her tea. "You should Doctor Smith, the Council doctor, look at that in a day or two, just to make sure that everything is okay."
"I will." Finishing off his own cup of tea, he studied her for a moment. "Your husband's a great guy, sweetie. I can see why you fell in love with him."
"He is. I can't believe how lucky I've been to find him."
While waiting for Rupert to return, she and Lorne talked about the Council for a bit, Fred explaining the set-up to him and the situation with the Slayers currently living near the headquarters. Lorne seemed excited about the new opportunity. It was nowhere near as glamorous as the work he had been doing in entertainment at Wolfram and Hart, but he knew in the end, it would be be more helpful.
Fred had just finished her tea when her husband came back in the kitchen and gave him a smile as he sat down. "I was just telling him about the Council, giving him an overview of everything."
"And I think I'm ready to start my position," Lorne told them.
"Then should we get going?" Fred asked before they stood up from the table. "We can drop Lorne off, then do some shopping, like you said."
Giles stood from the table and nodded at his wife's question. They needed to leave, especially since Fred's gift would be arriving later. Once Lorne had gotten his luggage, the three of them went out to the car. Giles drove them to the building the Slayers lived in and parked out front. He took them inside and was greeted by Andrew.
"Mr. Giles!" The younger man said, walking over to them. "Robin just called and said the Dana is resting comfortably and he's going to stay with her for a few more days before going back to the United States." Andrew looked over at Lorne and stuck out his hand. "I'm Andrew Wells. You must be Lorne."
"That I am," Lorne said, shaking his hand.
Meanwhile, Giles felt relieved knowing Dana was safe now and nodded at Andrew. "I'll call Robin later," he said before looking at his wife. "Are you ready to go?" A couple of the older Slayers came out and picked up Lorne's bags and waited for the demon to follow them.
"I'll be fine you two. Go and have fun," Lorne said, shooing Fred and Giles toward the front door.
"All right, all right," she said, laughing as Lorne practically pushed him toward the door. She reached into her purse and pulled out one of her cards that she had received from work last week. "Here. My cell phone number's on there if you need to reach us for whatever reason."
"Thanks, buttercup." He took the card and tucked it in his pocket before leaning over to kiss her temple. "Now, you and your husband go and have a nice day. I have new friends to make."
"Bye, Lorne! See you later, Andrew," Fred called out before she and Rupert were sent out the door. She shook her head as she threaded her arm through her husband's on the way back to the car. "Was like they couldn't get rid of us fast enough."
Getting into the car, they headed into London to one of the shopping districts. After finding a place to park, they got out and headed into the pedestrian area where the shops were located.
"Where did we want to go first?" she asked, not sure where to start.
"The furniture shop would be a good place to start," Giles said, pointing toward it. "I was thinking about getting a bigger bedroom set since there's two of us now. That way the both of us will have room in the bureau." He squeezed her hand, a smile crossing over his face. He was shopping with his wife for things like furniture and while most men would shy away from such activities, Giles actually liked it.
When they entered the store, a man came forward and asked if they needed any help. Giles told him no, knowing that Fred and him could make their own decision on what they wanted. The salesman nodded and walked off as Giles took his wife to the bedroom section of the store.
There was a some section of furniture for a nursery and Giles glanced at it, wondering when would be the right time to start having children. He figured they would know when it was right and didn't say anything about. Instead, he spotted a bedroom set that looked nice and went over to it.
"What about this one?" He asked, looking at his wife. The set include a bed that was made out of oak, a hope chest, a rather large bureau and a wardrobe.
Fred nodded as they walked over to the furniture store. He was right that a new set would be a very good thing to have, considering that at the moment, her clothes were sort of crammed in wherever there was room. She was glad to have a husband who was concerned about things like that.
Walking through to the back area, Fred looked at the different sets that were available. There were some rather cheap looking ones that she didn't like very much, but there were also some really pretty ones. She had just noticed the oak set when Rupert pointed it out as well.
Nodding, she walked over to it and ran her hand over it. It seemed solid and well-made and was really, really pretty. Staring at the bed, she could imagine them lying there together in their new house. She could even picture how everything could fit into their bedroom.
"I think it's perfect," she told him with a smile, sitting on the bed. "The mattress feels just right too." She could see them doing everything in this bed. Well, everything that couples did in beds anyway. "I think we should get it."
Giles watched as his wife examined the bedroom set, glad that she liked it also. He could picture it in their new bedroom. Giles could also picture other things, like them making love on the bed, or their children playing in the wardrobe, hoping to find the magical land of Narnia. A smile crossed his face as he sat next to Fred on the bed. He pulled her against her and hugged her tightly. "I love you so bloody much," he whispered against her hair.
The salesman comes back and Giles stood. "We'll take it. Can we have it delivered next week? We haven't moved into the our new home yet. We just got married," he explained. The salesman congratulated them on their marriage before getting the paperwork out. Giles filled it out and when he was finished, he handed them back to the salesman.
"The set will be delivered next week," he said. "Have a nice day Mr. and Mrs. Giles."
"Thank you," Giles said, taking Fred's hand. "So Mrs. Giles, where shall we go next? I thought perhaps we could get a present for Willow and Charlotte for watching Molly for us while we were gone but I haven't a clue as to what."
Fred embraced Rupert tightly as they sat on the bed. "I love you too," she said softly. She couldn't imagine being with or sharing her life with anyone else now.
Once Rupert had filled out the paperwork and paid for the set, she found herself smiling at the salesperson calling them Mr. and Mrs. Giles. It sounded so nice hearing that - it made it more real in a way even though she knew it was real every time she looked down at the rings on her finger or the one of his and every time he touched her.
Like now, when he took her hand and they walked out of the furniture shop back out into the pedestrian walk area. Pursing her lips together, she glanced around, trying to think of something that both Charlotte and Willow would like. The memory of opening the present from them the other night and finding the lingerie inside crossed her mind briefly, but she didn't think that would be very appropriate, all things considered. They looked into the shop windows as they walked along, trying to get an idea. What did you get for a lawyer and a witch who worked for a powerful and somewhat secret Council that fought against evil for the good of mankind?
"How about one of those?" she asked, stopping and pointing into the window of a wine shop. There were several beautiful gift baskets inside containing one or two bottles of wine along with assorted chocolates and cookies. "They could have a nice evening together with something like that.
"Definitely better," he responded. "For once, I feel like I can actually rest and live my life and not be looking over my shoulder, wondering what's going on behind those office doors. As for my arm, it's a bit itchy, but that's good, I'd imagine."
