Ulysses by James Joyce

Ulysses is extremely long. Much of it is obscure if not entirely unintelligible, and I found it paralyzingly boring. I did read the entire book, if only to secure bragging rights, since I have not yet discovered an acquaintance who has read it. It strikes me as a book that professors of literature inflict on their students, whom they can impress ( Read more... )

I'm impressed you got through it. It's on my list of books I should read someday, but I'm really not looking forward to it.

Thanks for your comments. I fully expected to be castigated for bad mouthing a "masterpiece" of 20th century literature. (Since writing the review I have discovered one friend who says she's read it. But she denied having enjoyed it.)
