According to one of my friends with a pretty good grasp of German, German texts often go on and on and on in long, long sentences that feel like ten paragraphs long to build up to an epic conclusion, a style which often gets lost in translation, when I said how annoying I found Kafka's run-on sentences to be.
It sounds like an interesting novel, though perhaps not something that'd jump to the top of my to-read pile.
