I actually never read the Alice books when I was a kid, so when I read them last year, it was as an adult with only the Disney movie as my primary point of reference. Really liked them, but I was reading them as an adult and looking for the symbolism and the historical and social context; I'm sure I missed out by not experiencing them as a child.
And it's odd to me that Boxall's 1001 books list has Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass as two separate entries, but there are entire series of books that get lumped together as one.
Well, they are definitely two different books, but reasonable people can differ.
For my reviewing purposes, I divided The Once and Future King into its four component novellas, but treated the four books of The Alexandria Quartet as one unit. The main difference is because I read TH White slowly over the course of several months, and Durrell all at once. I am large. I contain multitudes.
