Nice that you enjoyed the book. I read borges the other year after a brazilian friend recommended him to me.

Have forgotten almost all the stories now but I remembered that I really liked them, maybe it's time for a reread soon.

Well, a collection of short storys I read recently there was some stories that reminded me of Borges, the collection was "Stories of Your Life and Others" by Ted Chiang, so if you like Borges you might like that collection.

Thank you for giving Labyrinths such a thorough review! I do think Argentinian writers were unappreciated on the list. Borges is, of course, our top guy- he was an absolute genius. It's sad that he is not as popular as he should be in other parts of the world (I really didn't know that), but obviously the lack of translations is great issue.

I'm glad you liked it!

One of my favourite quotes is from Borges:
""I have always imagined that paradise will be a kind of library." -Jorge Luis Borges

Don't know what the quote would be in his native language though.

Not sure if you're aware, but there is a science-fiction splinter "genre" that is sorta based on Borges, in part.

Was reading a "slipstream" story collection, and in a nutshell, it was described as "science fiction crossed with Borges and Calvino." Neither Borges or Calvino was included in this collection, though. So...I don't know if science-fiction writer-types consider Borges science fiction, but at least some of them are aware of him.

Will have to read him sometime...one thing I'd like to do is read more non-Anglo science fiction.
