ADMIN: Journal deletions and 1001 books in how many years?

May 24, 2011 11:45

Howdy folks,

May is almost over, and our review total is 74. I think it's unlikely we're going to get through 1001 books by the end of the year.

So, that's cool -- I suggest that our "1001 books in one year" will become "Countdown to 1001 books." We'll just see how many years it takes us. ;)

That said, I'm not sure what to do about dropouts, especially since I have no way of knowing who's still participating and who's forgotten all about this challenge. If someone is no longer interested, has dropped out, or whatever, their book should be put back in the pool. My inclination is to do a "purge" at the end of the year -- look up everyone who has not posted a review since getting their first book assignment, contact them, and drop them if they don't respond.

While we're on the subject: journal deletions. WTF? I have to admit, I've never quite understood the point of deleting your LiveJournal, since they're free, and if you have an embarrassing post, you can just delete that. But whatever. A handful of people have deleted their LJs since joining, and I can take their names off the review list easily enough, but at least one person deleted his or her journal after posting a review. Unfortunately, that means you are now denied access to the review by that damn goat sticking its tongue out at you. WTF, catofmanycolors? Color me peeved. If you decide to delete your LJ for whatever reason, fine, but please be kind enough to tell me if you're going to do so, so I can (a) remove you from the review list and make your book available again; and (b) save any reviews you have posted.

Hope everyone is still reading and still enjoying the challenge. I would like to get all the way through this 1001 books list, even if it does take more than one year, and I'm thinking I will definitely have to do something similar when we're finished.

If anyone has any suggestions, complaints, or observations, please discuss!
