Hello all,
LiveJournal's email notifications seem to be reaching me again.
I've made a couple of mistakes recently while updating the
books list, so please do check it and make sure that all of the books you have reviewed are listed as reviewed, that the book you are currently assigned is correct, and that you haven't accidentally been assigned two books (or disappeared from the list).
Per the
recent discussion over long and difficult books, I'm not asking for volunteers at this time to take on the "hard cases" -- given our current rate of reviewing, it seems unlikely we'll actually make it all the way through 1001 books by the end of the year. (Though maybe some of you are just waiting for the summer to start reading in earnest. ;)) But probably around June or July I will revisit the topic and perhaps invite people to volunteer for books instead of automatically being assigned one randomly.
On the topic of Books of Doom that have defeated people, so far three books have proven too much for the person assigned them. (I'm not making this list to embarrass anyone, so you don't need to cop to it unless you want to, but if you are one of the unfortunates who had endure these, feel free to comment if you like. :)) I'm interested to know if anyone has read these and had a different experience. (Cryptonomicon happens to be one of my favorite books, but it is very long and dense and certainly not to everyone's tastes.)
- The Melancholy of Resistance by László Krasznahorkai
- The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing
- Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson
Did I forget any?
I hope most of your reading experiences are more enjoyable!
