The verdict: The 19th Wife: A Novel is an entertaining and well-written fictional exploration of the issue of polygamy in the Mormon church. The novel follows both the historical beginnings of plural marriage in the early days of LDS and the modern-day continuation of the institution in the offshoot FLDS, which split off from the original church over this issue. Part historical novel and part modern-day murder mystery, it is ultimately a story about the mysteries of faith and community.
