BEA piled some amazing books on me this year, as did my book clubs, and there were some fantastic sequels that came out too.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell was one of my favorites, and the new Sarah Dessen, The Moon and More, was great as well. Charming, the first book in a new series called Pax Arcana, in my opinion, is the next Dresden Files. Richelle Mead's new series with the stupid name had a great first book, Gameboard of the Gods. It's American Gods with a sort of badass heroine/bad boy hero thing going on, very fun. Cynthia Voigt put out a cute little J-lit book called Mister Max: The Book of Lost Things. And Buffy Season 9 keeps impressing me.
Speaking of comics, finally started Saga way behind the crowd but I love it. I finished the Irredeemable/Incorruptible series, and that was awesome, if a bit kinda wobbly toward the end. There's a Hellraiser comic, of all things, that I really love the covers, and am enjoying where Barker's taking some of the characters. Miles Morales won me over as Spider-Man in the new Ultimate Spider-Man books.
Oh right, and Christopher Pike put out a new book this year. There's even a Clyde in it.
My rl book club introduced me to The Snow Child, which dazzled me, and The Light Between Oceans, which was a fascinating follow-up to the former. This book club, of course I've said, Marriage: A History, omg, and then my friend lent me her copy of Straight, which is a great follow-up read to that if anyone's looking.
Sequels, sequels, sequels. Just One Year was a great companion to Just One Day; the 4th Last Survivors Book, The Shade of the Moon, gives us a jerk of a "hero," but we've followed him for so long we keep following him, hoping for the best for him; Fuse, the sequel to Pure, so good; Scarlet, the sequel to Cinder, and the new one, Cress, is on order at the library, wheeee!; MaddAddam, of course; and the last Alice book, Now I'll Tell You Everything, which I cried my way through. The entire thing.
I've read 353 books so far this year, many of them children's picture books, so if anyone wants to know about those, it's easier to check my Goodreads, really, or my book blog.
But I think it was a really good reading year, don't you?
best of the year,
