So I am settling in to my new place, and I have to say, that despite the "renters" feel, like the carpet, and the door trim, and the outdated kitchen, I just love it.
My neighbors are great (I've already met more than I ever met in my old places. Either the yellow yellow or the one on Jason. And we are so close to down town.
So Han and I took a walk after dinner last night. We walked downtown to get ice cream, and stopped to see the fire trucks. We ran into another boy at Han's school, and I stopped and chatted with his parents, and they played for a bit. We stopped and talked about the Memorial in the center of town, since yesterday was Memorial day and all. Hard to explain what all of it means in a way a 4 year old can grasp. So I just said they were all good-guys who died fighting bad guys to keep us safe. He then responded with "I still love Nona (my mom) even though she died." I love that kid.
I figured out that I really like high ceilings. The new place has 9' ceilings and that makes me feel much more comfortable. Probably because I grew up with really high ceilings. In my house in Salem (and in Jock's house) the ceilings may have even been 10'. It just makes everything feel much more open. Probably why when I was looking at open houses a few months ago, I would visibly relax and like a house as soon as I walked was an older house. I was trying to figure out why, and I think that was a big part of it. Those are the "bones" of a place. The things I could never change.
My Aunt Susy is coming this weekend to "spend my money".
We will buy curtains and probably an island for my kitchen, and rugs and maybe pictures, and who knows what else I absolutely must have. I love having someone to help me - I get so stupidly indecisive about spending money.
Speaking of which, I haven't even hooked up my Sonos yet. But I found a use for all the pretty scarves/wraps/wall hangings I bought in Thailand! They make great radiator covers. It's funny, I've always disliked radiators, mostly I think because they take up space. But my new place has these covers on top, and when I put a pretty covering over them, they are useful! Nice spaces for decorations.
Yet another reason I think I really am a Meyers-Briggs "S" - I think things need to be useful. I have always been pretty polar on Meyers Briggs. I am an ISTJ though the S is the only one close to the middle. I am strongest on the "J" I like to have things decided, done with, neatly wrapped up etc. Makes life so much easier no not have to worry about things.
Babble babble babble.
(And yes, I will answer those questions about my date tomorrow, but not on LJ ;-) )
