i finished watching the first episode of bambino. it was actually very good. and when i thought Matsumoto Jun couldn't get anymore attractive, he just gets hotter and hotter.
the first episode sure did a good job of hooking me into this drama already.
in the beginning we see Jun's character Ban Shogo arriving in tokyo where he will begin his new job at a famous italian restaurant. his old boss had recommended him to go there. though, at first he was reluctant to go, he ends up going there.
when he gets there, you can totally see that he is clearly in awe and amasement at this new world his entering. just when he's wandering the street, you can see the nervousness in him about starting a new life here. then when he actually gets to the restaurant, you can see the anxiety in his face; he's half nervous and half excited to enter. and when he goes in, well i think that nervousness wins out. the staff are all "too cool". One of them (i can't remember the guys name) mistakes him for a costumer, and tells him they're closed still. but when he tells him that he's the staff that was hired.. well then finally he gets there attention. although, it doesn't look like they cared much really. more like they're all thinking "oh, well he probably won't last more than three days" kinda thinking.
after he's finished getting changed, and briefly introduced to the staff, the head chef is right down to business. now this is where it really started going for me. as a woman starts reading out the day's agenda, Shogo's already starting to get lost in it all. Oh but when the restaurant finally opened, and the kitchen finally hoped into action, they really were right to describe it like a battle field. it was so fast-paced. i had never worked in a kitchen before, but the way my friends who have, when they describe to me what's it's like working in the kitchen in a restaurant, it sounds like they're just loafting around waiting for something to do. but in this kitchen, they're all just going; no stopping or anything.
and poor Shogo is now completely overwhelmed by it all. at soon as that kitchen started to get going, you could see the nervousness in his face. his already starting to get lost. everyone's working comfortably cooking, and preparing, and serving.. and Shogo, you started to see a little bit of doubts in his eyes. he's preparing his food frantically, and i was seriously getting nervous watching him. it was like watching your child starting school. i was hoping and hoping that nothing bad would end up happening, but the tension finally got to him, and he ends up dropping the plate of pasta that he was making. when the plate crashed, the kitchen goes silent, and i'm dying for the poor guy. he couldn't even believe that he's finally cracked. and all he can do is apologize for it. after a scolding from one of the other workers in the kitchen, it's all done hill for Shogo.
he gets stuck to wash the dishes, and no one's surprised that he cracked. instead, they all seem to have pretty satisfied looks on their faces (and i just want to kick those satisfied faces). and of course, he can't do anything about it, so he just does what he's told. instead he proceeds to clean the pans and dishes furiously. he gets so worn out that ne nearly falls alseep washing the dishes. until that same dude that scolded him, throws a can at him, and tells him to just go home. but another guy interupts and tels him to leave him be.
haha, then there's a scene with an exhausted Shogo trying to call his girlfriend but ends up falling asleep before he can. and this part is simply too cute, cause he's sleeping with his mouth open and talking in his sleep. kawaii
the next day, nothing's changed; Shogo's still washing dishes, and people are still treating him like.. crap. but the head chef is making the guy that totally dislikes him teach him a dish (i think he was making a broth). he makes it, leaves, comes back, tries it, and it's terrible, and he can't understand why, and he's panicking again. the head chef knocks the crap out of the guy that was supposed to teach him. Shogo can't believe it, and the dude's made. so what does he do... he takes him outside, starts knocking him around.
after beating him and scolding, he leaves Shogo outside in the rain, and the poor dude finally breaks down. he starts remembering his old job, his girlfriend, and his old life. and omg, I'm was left paining for Shogo. he just keeps saying, why, why why.. and i want to give him he biggest hug and tell him to hang in there, and that everything will be alright eventually. and here, i'm reminded of just why i love Jun; he's really able to pull off the emotional turmoil that Shogo's feeling being a new, overwhelming world.
anyways, Shogo comes back into the kitchen, and he's decided he's not giving up. he asks that dude to teach him, and Arashi's We Can Make It starts playing.. and we're left with an image of a more confident and determined Shogo, and the changed faces of the staff. then the head chef gives him his nickname "Bambi" (Babino).
so all in all.. ya, it was good. i have a feeling it's just going to get better. the next episode looks like there'll be more hard times for Shogo, and looking forward to watching this again. i really do feel like i'm watching my child venturing off for the first time into the real world, struggle through those news things in life. ahaha, i'm thinking and feeling to much into it. but anyways, i can't till the next episode.
