and it's utada hikaru. lol, she's freakin COOL!!! i'd like to thank hyd for introducing me to her. after falling in love with flavor of life (and that song's still on heavy rotation on my playlist.. it's blowing my mind just how many times i play that song a day), i started checking around for more stuff on her.. and i found out the girl's been AROUND! (okay i don't mean like that... but i mean, she's been in the business for a while.. and not just the japanese market).
girl's released a total of 7 albums, two of which are complete english albums. oh, and i got a kick outta finding this one out... she did a song for the rush hour 2 soundtrack with foxxy brown!. gah, i found the song:
now i must rewatch the movie, and see if i can find the song in the movie. lol, i don't know, i'm super excited about finding her music.
-she debuted in the states with her first album, Precious in 1998
-when she first came out in the states, she was under the name Cubic U (frankly i think it's really good she when by her real name afterwards... cause cubic u sounds.. weird. when i first hear it, i started thinking about functions.. and that just gives me a headache)
-she's originally from the U.S.A. and then later moved to tokyo, and then released her second album, and first japanese album First Love in 1999
-she got married to Kazuaki Kiriya (the guy's 15 years older than her) in 2002; she got divorced to him March this year
-the single Flavor of Life was the most downloaded ringtone of this year; it was downloaded over 2,000,000 times before the actual release of the single (i'm still looking for this ringtone =@)
-the single debuted at #1 on the Oricon charts; music stores sold out on the first day; first week sales were recorded at 270,605, and apparently the highest of all female artists since Ayumi Hamasaki's & (i have no idea who that is)
-a week after release, the song was downloaded over 3 million times

here. that's where i found this stuff..
man, i've so gotta do a write up on her actual music, cause well, the evolution of her music is really what's most amazing about her (well at least to me). but i've got a latin test to study for. i was just procrastinating for an hour. so i must get back to translating and conjugating. i will definitely do i write up... next week...
edit: okay, so my brain doesn't really wanna concentrate on translating latin sentences right now, so i'll write up so garble about my day. lol, random yes.. but i wanted to share.
this morning the first 4 volumes of hana yori dango (plus volume 13, cause it was on sale the time i ordered the first few) finally came in the mail (i shouldn't really be saying finally, cause it actually came pretty fast, within 5 days). i checked out the first volume today, along with volume 13. now, i had read hyd from online scants that have been around and done by fans. and i must say, that although the first volume is translated pretty well the same as the online scants i had read, volume 13 was really weird to read.
see, i was afraid the translations would be really different and weird.. and i was sad to see that the volume with the snow arc (of all volumes!) would be weird. the main thing that bothered me about it, i think, was the fact that they westernized the names. well, the names are still the same, just that instead of leaving the name ordering as last name first, and first name last, they did the opposite. so it was really weird seeing makino and doumyoji calling each other "tsukushi and tsukasa".. makino calling nishikado and mimasaka "sojiro and akira".... makino calling hanazawa rui "rui hanazawa" and the eitoku lillies calling makino "tsukushi". i mean, i think what they call each other is pretty significant in showing their relationship with each other, right?
another thing was that some of the jokes lost their meaning the way viz media translated it. and some of the jokes were even completely changed (i can't remember any off the bat.. but they were really bad. i'll put it up once i remember). the first volume wasn't too bad, but volume 13 was just weird to read. i'm hoping the other volumes won't be as weird as that one.
okay, i really need to get back to studying, but before that, i wanna share something...
click click. hehe =D i got new glasses today. mine exactly like that, except that mine's burgundy. =D haha, i'm so happy, i just had to share that. okay, this time, i really gotta go study.
