Eight spell → Video → Backdated to yesterday morning

[Even though it's already past 11am, Hermione is languishing in bed, looking bored and unconcerned. This apathy's a bit odd, not just because she's usually sharp and alert much earlier than this but because she's lying on her stomach, the thin strap of her sleeveless nightshirt creeping down her shoulder as her position allows any viewer to see a ( Read more... )

That depends. Are you useless today, as well as affected?

[... so blunt at this point.]

Excuse me?

What crawled in your pants and died?

This week, being affected seems to equal being completely incapacitated. Hence my question.

I'm perfectly reasonable, as always. If you don't want to force your company on me, Heaven forbid you force yourself and ruin both of our afternoons.

[This look, Hermione. This look exactly.]

Fine. My house at [x,y] in half an hour.

[She just stares right back before rolling her eyes in annoyance and clicking off the PCD. She's a few minutes late, since she's in no rush to wash up, pull on some jeans and a jumper, and trudge herself along. Though she dimly realizes, as she runs her hand through her messier-than-usual hair, that this is probably a bad impression to make, the apathy is just too overwhelming as she knocks on the door. At least she always keeps her appointments, for better or worse?]

[He pulls open the door with some impatience. It's not because she's late - though to him, even minutes count. It's just that he's on edge this week; his affected associates drive him to distraction.]

Come in.

[And he steps to the side, allowing her room to enter. Mireille is out at the moment and she's left the house completely spotless. As always.]

[She crosses her arms over her chest and stares at him darkly as he jerks the door open. She wonders if she was late and decides that, even if she was, it couldn't be by that much and that he should really loosen up. Stepping inside the house, she looks around the house, unused to seeing anything quite so clean.]

Well, someone's in a mood.

[Shutting the door behind him, he sighs. Counts to ten in his head for God knows which time this week.]

Being unaffected in this place is the bigger curse sometimes.

[The living room lies in direct extension of the hallway. The large dinner table is strewn with papers, two heavy books placed on top of the biggest stacks to keep them somewhat in place. This is the only place in the house with some visible disarray; Mireille isn't allowed near his work. He gestures towards the small sofa arrangement in the corner instead.]

Have a seat, Mademoiselle.

[She gives a shrug.] I don't think so. It's going to be hell on me and a few others once things have settled. For now, I'm fully aware of how I've changed and can't bring myself to care, so long as I'm still having fun.

[Her alignments haven't changed, though she's much more cavalier than previously. Sitting down in the middle of the sofa, she looks up at him as she crosses her legs.] So, what precisely did you want to go over today?

[He doesn't disagree with her, exactly. But he's so annoyed with people currently, he can't really care about the distress they'll have to face when the week is over. He sits down in a chair opposite the sofa table.]

I wanted to ask you about your magic.

[He doesn't go on right away. Experience tells him that people react very differently to such inquiries and he wants to gauge her reaction before he continues. If she's completely averse to talking about it, he won't pressure her.]

[She stares at him for a few moments, expecting him to say more. When he does, she blinks a few times, trying not to sigh heavily.]

That would require actual questions, I would think.

[Oh right. Attitude. In spades.]

Charming. Fine, then let me ask - what's your opinion on segregating halfbreed wizards and witches from the pureblood population?

[It's not attitude; she's just being... straightforward. Right.]

[The question strikes her as surprising, causing her to let out a snicker.]

I'm a Muggle-born, Monsieur Duroc. As far as the magical community in my world is concerned, I'm a noblood witch, and so I have no say in such things anyway. Personally, I think our pasts and parentage don't matter so much as our futures and actions, so segregation of any sort is utterly nonsensical.

[He keeps a smile at bay because, well, while she's snickering and seemingly blasé about the whole thing, he's reasonably certain that she won't be once the event is over.]

I've been told that blood matters in terms of magical potential. But of course, propaganda tends to be cruel.
