If the Shoe Fits by Sarah Mlynowski

Book 2 of Whatever After. Probably best read in order.

But Abby and Jonah try to get back through the mirror. Repeatedly. And then, finally they succeed. Except it's not back to Snow's kingdom.

Instead they land in the coatroom at the ball. And while the prince, they find, is talking with a rather plain girl, the beautiful princess arrives. Having deduced the tale, they follow her in hopes of finding the magic mirror that will let them go back. Instead their actions result in her foot being injured and swollen. So the slipper won't fit.

Her fairy godmother is also the prince's and thinks that a girl who just wants the prince to rescue him won't make him a good queen. Cinderella must prove she can stand on her own two feet to gain help.

They weave a story to explain their presence to the stepmother and try to fix things. It involves the stepsister whom the prince was talking to, cooking, sewing, questions of who owns ingredients, the man in charge of the coat room, and more.
